Laughlin, a senior from McGaheysville, Va., started off the 2021 season about as well as one could imagine by capturing his first collegiate medal at the Royal Lakes Individual Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe University. Laughlin finished at even-par 216 over 54-holes of action, making him the lone golfer not to post an over-par final score. He carded rounds of 2-under 70, even-par 72, and 2-over 74 on his way to a six-stroke victory on the par-72 layout set to 6,768 yards at the Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club in Flowery Branch, Ga. Golfers spent two days on the course, playing 27 holes each day. Laughlin opened up a five stroke lead after the first day powered by seven birdies and an eagle. The 2020 All-ODAC Third Team selection ranked second on the team with a 74.3 per round average last season.
