  • ODAC Announces Berkley and Jopson Award Winners
    June 03, 2020
    One record increases and another begins as the ODAC Board of Directors handed out the league's highest individual honors in naming the winners of the Majorie Berkley and Harry G. "Doc" Jopson Awards. Washington and Lee University swimmer Emily Hageboeck earned Berkley Award recognition, while University of Lynchburg runner Shawn Gmurek collected Jopson Award laurels. Hageboeck is the 11th winner of the Berkley Award from W&L, furthering the Generals conference record. Eastern Mennonite University student-athletes have won the second-most honors at six. For Gmurek, the list is brand new as he is the first Hornet from Lynchburg to claim the Jopson Award. He does continue an interesting trend as a cross country or track & field athlete has collected Berkley and/or Jopson distinction each of the past seven years dating back to 2014.

    The ODAC caught up with University of Lynchburg cross country and track & field standout student-athlete Shawn Gmurek, who won the Harry G. "Doc" Jopson Award as the conference's top senior scholar-athlete. He is the first winner of the Jopson Award in Lynchburg history.

  • Celebrating Achievement | Indoor Track & Field NCAA Qualifiers

    Eleven of the ODAC's best track & field stars were set to compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships following banner regular season performances that included a stellar conference championship. Those 11 standouts, however, did not get the opportunity to compete on the national level with the current climate forcing the cancellation of all NCAA winter championships and spring sports.

    The ODAC and its member schools will be well-presented at the upcoming NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships with 11 competitors ready for action. Competition will cover two days in Winston-Salem, N.C., with JDL Fast Track serving as the host venue and working with the ODAC's own Guilford College in welcoming more than 500 athletes to the region.

    A half-dozen new records were set and eight events featured repeat champions as ODAC student-athletes completed two days of competition at the ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Washington and Lee University captured its fourth straight and 10th overall men's team title, while the University of Lynchburg hoisted its second straight and ODAC-best 11th women's team trophy.
  • Previewing the 2020 ODAC Indoor Track Championships

    For the first time in conference history, the ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will cover two days as league teams converge on Salem for this season's conference meet. Roanoke College's Kerr-Cregger Field House will serve as the host venue for a fourth consecutive season. The two-day 32-event affair begins at 6:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, February 29 with a limited slate of events. Action continues on Sunday, March 1 with field events beginning at 11:00 a.m. ET and track events joining the fray at 2:30 p.m. ET.
