2010-11 Indoor Track Athletes of the Week

  • RANDY LOTT, Virginia Wesleyan, Freshman

    Lott, a freshman from Virginia Beach, Va., turned in an excellent effort in the 55-meter dash at the Mason-Dixon Conference championships at Christopher Newport University. He broke VWC’s record in the event three times in the meet en route to finishing as the Mason-Dixon champion in the event. He started it in the prelims with a time of 6.60, breaking the previous VWC record of 6.86 set by Josh Smith in 2006. He broke his own record in the semifinals with a time of 6.55 and then topped that in the finals with a championship time of 6.51. He also placed 11th in the 200-meter dash (23.67).
  • ERICA GARBER, Eastern Mennonite, Freshman

    Garber, a freshman from Canby, Ore., won the triple jump Saturday at the DuCharme Invitational and also took over the top spot in the ODAC in process. Her distance of 10.92m (35-10.0) won the triple jump over W&L’s Marissa Thompson (10.63m). It was a personal best for Garber as she has improved her distance in each of her four collegiate meets.
  • 4x400 RELAY TEAM, Washington and Lee

    The Washington and Lee men's indoor track 4x400-meter relay team, comprised of senior Tyler Grant, sophomore Steven Colliau, and freshmen Zander Tallman and Dillon Myers, posted the 12th-best time in the country at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games over the weekend. The Generals clicked the tape in 3:21.81 to place first overall, set a new ODAC season top-time and break the previous W&L record of 3:25.93. For NCAA qualification, the time was converted due to track size to 3:23.81, 4.37 seconds quicker than the next fastest time in the ODAC this year.
  • CARMEN GRAVES, Roanoke, Sophomore

    Graves, a sophomore from Christiansburg, Va., competed in five events at the Vince Brown Invitational. She set a new Roanoke record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.25, which is 4.19 seconds faster than any time in the ODAC this season. She placed third overall and second in D-III ranks in the event. Her leap of 16'1" in the long jump was 16th overall, but third amongst D-III competitors. She also competed in the triple jump, posting a mark of 34'4.25" to place seventh overall and second in D-III competition. She finished by running a leg on the Maroons' 4x400-meter relay team, helping RC to a program season-best time of 4:14.83.
  • ERIC VAN BRUNK, Lynchburg, Sophomore

    Van Dunk, a sophomore from Mahwah, N.J., narrowly missed joining Lynchburg's all-time list in the shot put with a heave of 47'6.25" at VMI this weekend. He finished second overall in the event and first among NCAA Division III athletes. His throw was also a new ODAC season-best mark.

    Walton, a freshman from Richmond, Va., paced the Hornets at VWI in the pole vault by clearing 10'10" to place fourth overall. She was the top NCAA Division III athlete, and set a new ODAC set best mark so far this year.

    Bell, a junior from Huddleston, Va., set a new ODAC seasonal top time in the pole vault at the Liberty Open & Multi's this weekend. He cleared 15'9" to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, finishing second overall in the event to an unattached competitor.
  • JESSICA GIBBS, Lynchburg, Senior

    Gibbs, a senior from Lancaster, Pa., was the first NCAA Division III finisher and placed third overall in the pentathlon with 3,212 points, which eclipsed the provisional qualifying mark (3,000 points) for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. Her best showings in the five-event discipline came in the 800-meter run and long jump, in which she placed second (2:27.72) and third (16'9.75"), respectively.
  • DAVID KIDD, Virginia Wesleyan, Senior

    Kidd, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., turned in one of the best efforts of his career in the Terrapin Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland in the 5,000 meter run. He placed ninth in the field of 27 with a VWC record time of 15:17.84. His time broke the former record of 15:28.60 set by junior teammate Sean Whitson earlier this season. Whitson competed in the same event and broke his own record with a time of 15:28.01. Kidd was the only Division III runner in the top 10 in the race. His time is the 18th fastest in the event to date in the NCAA rankings and the top time in the ODAC this season.
  • OLIVIA MILLS, Bridgewater, Sophomore

    Mills, a sophomore from Fredericksburg, Va., placed first in the mile run at the Orange & Maroon Classic hosted by Susquehanna University. Mills set a new BC indoor record in the event with a time of 5:20.85, breaking the old record by 22 seconds. It also is the ODAC's top time in the event this season.
  • COLE GLASGOW, Washington and Lee, Freshman

    Glasgow, a freshman from Dallas, Texas, won a pair of events in the Generals 76.5-42.5 victory over Roanoke College in a dual meet setting over the weekend. Glasgow leapt 6.13 meters (20'1.5") to win the long jump. He added a victory in the 55-meter dash, crossing the line in 6.71 seconds. Both times currently place in the top five in the ODAC so far this season.
  • MARISSA THOMPSON, Washington and Lee, Sophomore

    Thompson, a sophomore from Chatham, Va., won two individual events and was part of a first place relay as Washington and Lee competed to a 67-67 tie with Roanoke College in a dual meet setting. Thompson won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.59 seconds. She added a victory in the long jump with a leap of 5.01 meters (16'5.25"), equaling her mark from the Generals' first meet of the season prior to the holidays. Thompson was also a member of the W&L 4x400-meter relay that topped Roanoke with a time of 4:34.08.
  • ZANDER TALLMAN, Washington and Lee, Freshman

    Tallman, a freshman from Grand Blanc, Mich., won the 400-meter dash at the Marietta First Glimpse Invitational with a school-record time of 49.96. He was also a part of the 4x400-meter relay team that took first place (3:31.67) at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.

    Allen, a senior from Richmond, Va., broke two school records and set one new ODAC mark on Saturday to highlight the Lynchburg women's indoor track & field team's first meet of the season, the Liberty University Kickoff. Allen set the school record in the shot put with a throw of 39'7" and the weight throw with a 50'0.5" heave. The latter toss also set a new ODAC mark (Carrie Johnson, Lynchburg '03 - 48'3.25"). She finished sixth in the shot and fourth in the weight throw.
