  • ODAC Announces Jopson and Berkley Award Winners
    May 31, 2013
    A pair of Lynchburg, Va., based schools saw one of their student-athletes earn the conference's top honors in a vote of the ODAC Board of Directors at the recently completed annual league meetings. Lynchburg College field hockey standout Shelly Milks was recognized as the Marjorie Berkley Award winner, while Randolph College men's basketball star Colton Hunt was tabbed the winner of the Harry G. "Doc" Jopson Award.
  • Emory & Henry Names David Willson New Men's Basketball Coach

    Emory & Henry College has hired David Willson as Head Men's Basketball Coach, Director of Athletics Myra Sims announced Wednesday afternoon at a press conference. Willson becomes the fifth coach to lead the Wasps during the Old Dominion Athletic Conference era (since 1976-77).
  • RC's Allen Inducted into Virginia Sports Hall of Fame

    Former Roanoke College standout Frankie Allen '67 was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame at the 42nd Annual Induction Banquet at the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel & Waterfront Conference Center on April 27. He joins more than 350 athletes, coaches, administrators, educators and journalists who have made a major impact on the world of sports in the state of the Virginia.
  • Roanoke Kicks Off 100 Years of Basketball Celebration

    In conjunction with its 100 Years of Basketball Celebration, the Roanoke College athletic department has announced the 100 Years of Basketball All-Century Team on Friday, March 22nd. The All-Century team ranges from the Pre-Modern Era through the 2012-13 season, and was voted on by both a panel of judges and an online poll.
  • Saluting the Winter ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athletes

    Five student-athletes from Old Dominion Athletic Conference member schools earned a 2012-13 ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award during the winter athletic schedules. Farm Bureau Insurance is the proud presenter of each award for the ODAC's 23 sponsored sports.
  • Randolph's Hunt Wins 2013 Jostens Trophy

    Randolph College senior guard Colton Hunt was announced as the winner of the 2013 Jostens Trophy on Friday afternoon. He's joined by Calvin College's Carissa Verkaik as the male and female recipients of this year's honors. Hunt and Verkaik will be presented with their awards at the Salem Rotary Club luncheon on Thursday, March 21, at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va.
  • Five Men's Basketball Players Earn D3hoops.com All-Region Honors

    Randolph guard Colton Hunt highlights five ODAC men's basketball players that were named All-South Region by D3hoops.com on Wednesday. Hunt was tabbed the South Region Player of the Year, also earning a spot on the first team. Guilford guard Josh Pittman, Hampden-Sydney forward Harrison George and Virginia Wesleyan forward Chris Astorga were all named to the second team. VWC guard D.J. Woodmore garnered third team honors.
  • Virginia Wesleyan Tops CNU, Moves on to Sectional Round

    Virginia Wesleyan never trailed against cross-town rival Christopher Newport as the Marlins topped the Captains, 80-69, in front of a packed crowd in the Batten Center on Saturday evening. The victory moves VWC into the sectional round of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament, where it will travel to Williams College for a matchup with the Ephs next Saturday.
  • Randolph-Macon Advances to Sectionals with Win Over WPI

    R-MC took advantage of 59.2-percent shooting from the field, going 29-49 from the floor, to down Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 79-68, in second round action of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament Tournament at Assumption College on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets head to Amherst College next Saturday for sectional play. The winner advances to Salem, Va., for the quarterfinals.

  • Randolph's Hunt Named a Finalist for Jostens Trophy

    Monday afternoon the finalists for the prestigious Jostens Trophy were announced and Randolph College guard Colton Hunt (Whittier, NC/Smoky Mountain) was among the 10 finalists listed by the members of the Rotary Club of Salem, Va. The Jostens Trophy is awarded to one male and one female basketball player each year.
  • Randolph-Macon Defeats Stevens in NCAA Men's Basketball First Round

    The Randolph-Macon College Men's Basketball team took advantage of 84.6-percent shooting from the foul line, including 6-for-6 down the stretch, to capture a 69-60 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
  • WildCats Fall to Emory in NCAA Men's Basketball First Round

    Emory University's Jake Davis netted a game-high 25 points and the Eagles put three players in double figures as the Randolph College men's basketball team dropped its first-ever NCAA Tournament game Saturday, falling to EU 77-56 in the First Round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament.
  • Cabrini Holds on to Down H-SC in NCAA Men's Basketball First Round

    Cabrini College held on for a 80-78 win over Hampden-Sydney College in NCAA first round action on Saturday at H-SC. The Cavaliers victory was secure until a last-second three-point attempt by the Tigers' Greg Lewis rimmed in and out.

    It was enough of a patented Virginia Wesleyan College spurt to give the men's basketball Marlins a cushion that turned into an impetus to a 76-61 victory over the Delaware Valley College Aggies in Saturday's NCAA Division III first round tournament game at a noisy Jane P. Batten Student Center.
  • ODAC Gets Four in NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament

    Randolph-Macon College was a certainty to enter the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament after winning the ODAC title and earning the conference's automatic entry. But for others to be a part of the 62-team field, they'd have to be chosen as one of 20 at-large selections. The ODAC was rewarded with three of those choices as Hampden-Sydney College, Randolph College and Virginia Wesleyan College join R-MC on the national stage.
  • Hot Shooting Propels Randolph-Macon to the ODAC Men's Basketball Title

    Randolph-Macon College shot 54.9-percent from the field and saw four Yellow Jackets score in double figures as R-MC defeated Virginia Wesleyan College, 75-64, to claim its second ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament title in the last three years. Randolph-Macon will make its fourth straight trip to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament via the conference's automatic bid.
  • Randolph's Hunt, Nunley Lead ODAC Men's Basketball Awards

    A pair of WildCats accounted for three of the major awards as part of the 2013 All-ODAC Men's Basketball Teams. Randolph guard Colton Hunt took home Kurt Axe Memorial Player of the Year honors and the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. Randolph mentor Clay Nunley earned Bob Johnson Coach of the Year laurels, while Washington and Lee forward Andrew Franz was selected the ODAC Rookie of the Year.

    Randolph College men's basketball player Colton Hunt has proven a star in and out of the classroom. The WildCats' senior was named the Capital One Academic All-American of the Year (as selected by CoSIDA) on Tuesday, Feb. 19. He is a two-time All-ODAC First Team choice, a two-time Academic All-American, and is currently ranked #3 in NCAA D-III in scoring. He has led his squad to two straight ODAC title game appearances.

    Senior guard Colton Hunt of Randolph College and senior center Carissa Verkaik of Calvin College lead the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams, as selected by CoSIDA. Hunt and Verkaik have been chosen as the NCAA Division III Academic All-America® of the Year award winners for men’s and women’s basketball, respectively.

  • ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament Pairings Set

    Four ties had to be broken to determine the pairings for the 2013 ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament. That included a determination for the event's top seed as Virginia Wesleyan College received top billing over Hampden-Sydney College thanks to its head-to-head win over the Tigers in regular season play.
