  • ODAC Fall and Winter Sportsmanship Teams Announced
    April 10, 2014
    The Old Dominion Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2013-14 ODAC/StellarOne Sportsmanship Teams in each of the fall and winter sports sponsored by the conference. This marks the fifth year the league has recognized these fine student-athletes for their excellence in sportsmanship.
  • Salem's Carey Harveycutter Receives NABC Cliff Wells Appreciation Award

    Carey Harveycutter, a lifelong resident of Salem, Va., and long-time director of civic facilities for the City of Salem, is the recipient of the 2014 NABC Cliff Wells Appreciation Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The award will be presented to Harveycutter during the 2014 NCAA® Men’s Division III Basketball Championships March 21-22 in Salem.
  • Virginia Wesleyan Falls to Mary Washington in NCAA MBB Sectionals

    History continues to repeat itself for the Virginia Wesleyan College men's basketball team. The Marlins advanced to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 for the fourth straight year and had its roll toward a berth in the final four halted by the host team. In 2011 it was a 79-73 loss at Williams College, in 2012 a 76-62 setback at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and in 2013 an 84-75 loss at Williams. This time around, it was the University of Mary Washington that came up with the big stop, holding off the Marlins for 74-70 win Friday on the Eagles' court.
  • Virginia Wesleyan Moves on with Win over Wesley College

    DJ Woodmore (pictured) was a consistent offensive threat throughout Saturday's NCAA second round game against No. 10 Wesley College at the Jane P. Batten Student Center. Virginia Wesleyan College's All-American senior scored 28 points to lead the Marlins to a thrilling 79-74 victory over the Wolverines, but he shared the spotlight with teammates who came up with big plays when they counted the most. Their efforts helped Virginia Wesleyan to a win that sends the Marlins to the national sectionals for the fourth straight year.
  • Randolph-Macon Suffers Overtime Loss to DeSales in NCAA First Round

    Juniors Connor Sullivan and Chris Hamilton both scored 13, but Randolph-Macon dropped a 76-70 overtime decision to DeSales in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament in front of 1,450 fans at Crenshaw Gymnasium. DeSales moves on to face Mary Washington on Saturday in the second round.
  • Virginia Wesleyan Downs Johns Hopkins to Advance in NCAA Tournament

    A team that appeared to be a little intimidated early in the game by a noisy overflow crowd and a talented opponent, turned into an intimidator in the second half. Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, champions of the Centennial Conference, fell behind early to the host Virginia Wesleyan Marlins on Friday, and trailed 40-24 at halftime. The Jays shook it off in the second half to challenge the Marlins, but VWC held its ground en route to an 84-72 victory in the first round NCAA Division III tournament.
  • ODAC Gets Two in NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament

    Virginia Wesleyan College was a certainty to enter the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament after winning the ODAC title and earning the conference's automatic entry. Randolph-Macon College will also join VWC on the national stage after earning an at-large bid into the tournament. Both teams will host first and second round contests at their respective campuses.
  • Virginia Wesleyan Captures Fifth ODAC Men's Basketball Title

    Virginia Wesleyan College and Hampden-Sydney College featured in a showcase of a contest on Sunday afternoon with the Marlins coming out on top, 77-74, to claim its fifth overall ODAC men's basketball title. The Marlins earn their 10th trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament via the league's automatic bid. Pairings for the event will be announced live at 12:30 p.m. Monday on the selection show on NCAA.com.
  • VWC's Woodmore, R-MC's Davis Lead ODAC Men's Basketball Awards

    Virginia Wesleyan College guard D.J. Woodmore was named the Kurt Axe Memorial Player of the Year by the league's head coaches to lead the 2014 ODAC men's basketball all-conference awards. Randolph-Macon College mentor Nathan Davis was tabbed the Bob Johnson Coach of the Year. VWC guard Khory Moore garnered ODAC Rookie of the Year honors, and Washington and Lee University forward Drew Kimberly was selected as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award recipient.

  • ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament Pairings Set

    The final week of ODAC men’s basketball for the regular season left a lot on the table. Randolph-Macon College (14-2), winner of the 2013 ODAC title, won its final two regular season games to claim the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Yellow Jackets and the remaining top three seeds in the 12-team tournament field earn byes into the quarterfinals.

  • ODAC and Select Schools Tabbed to Host NCAA Division III Championships

    The Old Dominion Athletic Conference and two of its schools were selected to host or co-host 14 NCAA Division III championships over the next four years thru 2018. The conference will co-host 11 events, 10 of which will be in conjunction with the City of Salem. Guilford College is charged with men's golf in 2018, and Washington and Lee University was awarded two years as host of field hockey in 2014 and 2015. Salem will also host three Division II championships, of which the ODAC may assist.

  • Randolph-Macon Headlines ODAC Men's Basketball Preseason Poll

    Randolph-Macon College received eight first place votes on the way to 117 total points to headline the 2013-14 ODAC Men's Basketball Preseason Poll. The Yellow Jackets are followed closely by Hampden-Sydney College, which picked up 114 markers including the remaining four top nods. Virginia Wesleyan College sits third after collecting 102 points in the annual coaches' survey.
  • Hunt Named Capital One Division III Academic All-American of the Year

    Former Randolph College guard Colton Hunt added yet another piece of hardware to his trophy case as he was honored as the Capital One Division III Academic All-American of the Year, as selected by CoSIDA. This award features a 12 person team comprised six male and six female student-athletes across all sports in NCAA Division III. Hunt had previously earned distinction as the men's basketball Academic All-American of the Year and the was the men's Jostens Trophy recipient.
