VWC's Woodmore, R-MC's Davis Lead ODAC Men's Basketball Awards

Marlins' Moore, W&L's Kimberly also Honored

FOREST, Va. --- Virginia Wesleyan College guard D.J. Woodmore was named the Kurt Axe Memorial Player of the Year by the league's head coaches to lead the 2014 ODAC men's basketball all-conference awards.  Randolph-Macon College mentor Nathan Davis was tabbed the Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.  VWC guard Khory Moore garnered ODAC Rookie of the Year honors, and Washington and Lee University forward Drew Kimberly was selected as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award recipient.

Woodmore, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., is a three-time All-ODAC First Team honoree.  This is the second time he has won the ODAC's top player award, adding this year's accolade to the one he earned in 2012.  He was also tabbed the conference's top rookie in 2011.  Woodmore enters the ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament second in the conference in scoring at 20.4 points per game.  He's already collected a career-best 509 points this season, giving him 1,844 for his career to rank second all-time at VWC.  Woodmore leads the ODAC in three-pointers made (75) and is third in three-point shooting percentage (44.9%), both career bests.  He's recorded a trio of double-doubles and scored over 30 points twice, including a season-high 34 markers at Mary Washington in December.

Davis, in his fifth season guiding the Yellow Jackets, enjoys his first ODAC top coaching honor since returning to his alma mater in 2009.  Since that time, Davis has racked up a 113-34 (.769) career record, won a pair of ODAC titles (2011 and 2013), made three appearances in ODAC championship games (2010, 2011, 2013), and four trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament, including a national semifinals berth in 2010.  This season, R-MC enters the ODAC tournament as the top seed with a 20-5 overall record, the only squad to reach 20 wins so far this year.

Moore, a freshman from Arlington, Va., stepped into the Marlins rotation and added production from the perimeter.  Moore is averaging 10.4 points per game for second-seeded VWC entering the tournament, having knocked down 44 three -pointers, which sits ninth in the league.  In 22 games played, he scored in double figures 10 times, including a season-high 21 points where he buried 5-of-7 three-pointers against Guilford in January.

Kimberly, a senior from Fairfield, Conn., maintains a 3.696 grade point average as a Computer Science and Mathematics double-major.  A perennial member of the W&L Dean's List and All-ODAC Academic Team, Kimberly garnered Capital One Division III Academic All-District honors, making him eligible for Academic All-America consideration.  On the court, Kimberly averages 14.0 points per game and is fifth in the ODAC in rebounding at 8.1 boards per contest.  He's fourth in the league in field goal shooting (58.5%) and fifth in blocked shots (23).  He's recorded eight double-doubles this season, good for fourth in the conference.
