ASHLAND, Va. --- Junior Josh Talbert (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) led all scorers with 25 points, one away from his career high, and junior Miles Mallory (Beltsville, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) recorded his 11th double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds, as the top-ranked Randolph-Macon men's basketball team defeated Babson 67-51 Saturday evening in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to extend its win streak to 23 games and set the program record for victories in a season with 29.

HOW IT HAPPEN

• Sophomore Daniel Mbangue (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) has a layup for the Yellow Jackets to start the scoring. Junior Miles Mallory (Beltsville, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) scored twice in the lane to give R-MC an 8-4 edge with 14:20 left in the first half. The Beavers tied the game at 12-12 before buckets by Mbangue and Talbert put the Yellow Jackets up four at 16-12 with 8:40 remaining. BC would use a 9-2 spurt to take a 21-18 advantage before a three-pointer by sophomore Will Coble (Charlotte, N.C./Davidson Day) tied it at 21-21 with just under six minutes left. The Beavers held a 29-27 edge before Talbert tallied seven straight and Mallory scored inside to put the home team up 36-29 with 40 seconds left. BC hit a trey just before the horn and R-MC led 36-32 at the break. Talbert had 15 points in the first half and Mallory added eight.
• Senior DaQuan Morris (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill School) buried a three-pointer and senior Buzz Anthony (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) hit a jumper as R-MC went up 41-32 two minutes into the second period. A one-hander by senior David Funderburg (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) capped a 15-4 start of the second half as the Yellow Jackets led 51-36 with 13:10 remaining. BC had an 8-2 run to pull within nine at 53-44 before four points by Talbert and three by Mallory gave R-MC a 60-44 lead with just under six minutes left. A pair of free throws by Anthony game the Yellow Jackets their largest lead at 67-50 with 1:03 remaining. BC hit a foul shot in the last minute to make the final 67-51.

BY THE NUMBERS

• The Yellow Jackets had three score in double figures. Talbert had 25 points, Mallory added 15 and Anthony put up 11.
• Talbert went 10 for 12 from the floor and 4 for 4 from the free throw line.
• The Yellow Jacket defense held Mitchell to 28% shooting from the floor (8-29) in the second half. The Beavers were held to their lowest point total of the season.
• The Yellow Jackets had a 43-35 advantage on the boards. Mallory led R-MC with 10 rebounds, while Mbangue grabbed eight.

FOR THE RECORD

• R-MC reached the Sweet Sixteen for the third consecutive NCAA Tournament and for the 10th time in program history.
• The Yellow Jackets broke the program record for wins in a season with 29. R-MC had won 28 in 2002-03, 2014-15 and 2019-20.
• R-MC has won 23 straight games and 46 of its past 47 contests. It matches the second-longest win streak in program history.
• The Yellow Jackets extended their home win streak to 46 games, the longest current streak in Division III. The program record for home winning streak is 50 games, from 1961-66.
• Over the past four seasons, R-MC is 96-7 overall (.932) and 49-2 in ODAC contests (.961).
• Mallory had five blocks to raise his career total to 174, matching Pat Holland's R-MC record. Mallory also tied his program mark for blocks in a season with 75, which he set as a freshman in 2019-20.
• Anthony had 11 points to give him 1,921 for his career, the third-highest total in program history.
• Anthony had eight assists to give him 767, a program record.
• Anthony had two steals to give him 243, the most in program history.
