2021-22 Men's Basketball Players of the Week

  • Luca Docking, Roanoke, So., Attack

    Docking, a sophomore from Chevy Chase, Md., led Roanoke to a pair of ODAC victories to keep the Maroons in the hunt for the top spot in the ODAC standings. Docking registered 16 total points in Roanoke's home wins over Bridgewater and Randolph-Macon. Against the Eagles, he had a hand in eight of the Maroons 19 goals with five goals and three assists towards a 19-14 victory. He scored three times in the first half and contributed an assist and a goal on RC's first two goals third period to break open the game at 14-9, the Maroons largest edge of the contest. Docking also picked up three ground balls. He collected just as many loose balls and caused a turnover in Roanoke's come-from-behind 18-14 win over Randolph-Macon. Docking scored three of his game-high six goals in the fourth quarter to help the Maroons erase a 13-10 deficit entering the final frame. He added two assists to post eight points for the second straight game. Docking is now fifth in the ODAC with 20 assists go go along with 23 goals for 43 total points, the 10th-best total in the conference.
  • Liam Ward, Guilford, Sr., Forward

    Ward, a senior from Malvern, Pa., earns his first weekly award of the season after helping Guilford clinch the second seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament with a 1-1 showing against teams in the top of the league standings. Ward shot 54.5-percent (18-of-33) from the field while averaging 23.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. He opened with 27 points and seven boards in a 65-57 victory at Roanoke. He was 10-of-20 from the field including 2-of-4 from three-point range. He was also 5-of-6 from the line and collected two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. Ward then poured in 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting in a 72-66 loss to nationally top-ranked and ODAC #1 seed Randolph-Macon. He canned one more three-pointer and canned both of his foul shots. He pulled down seven more rebounds and handed out a pair of assists. For the season, Ward is third in the ODAC in scoring (19.1) and total points scored (439). He is fourth in field goals made (172-of-358) and steals (47), and fifth in rebounding (7.7) and total rebounds (176).
  • Buzz Anthony, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Guard

    Anthony, a senior from Arnold, Md., picks up his third weekly award of the season after averaging 28.5 points and 7.0 assists while shooting 69.0-percent from the field to lead nationally top-ranked Randolph-Macon to a pair of ODAC victories. Anthony opened with 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting in an 81-50 win at Bridgewater. He buried 5-of-8 from downtown and pulled down four rebounds to go with eight assists and four steals. He turned up the output and efficiency in just 27 minutes against Shenandoah as he matched his career-high with 32 points in the Yellow Jackets' 102-60 triumph. He was 10-of-14 from the field including 8-of-11 from beyond the arc. He was also 4-of-4 at the line while dishing out six assists and snaring a rebound. Anthony has now scored 1,813 points to rank third in R-MC history. He increased is ODAC record assists total to 712 helpers, which is second in program history. For the season, Anthony is fifth in the ODAC in scoring (18.4) and total points (386). He leads the league in assists (150) and is second in three-pointers made (58-of-135) and foul shooting (86.3% - 44-of-51). He is fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.5) and fifth in steals (38). Randolph-Macon has now won 18 straight games with a one-point overtime loss at CNU on November 28 serving as the Yellow Jackets lone blemish since a 64-54 loss at Guilford in the regular season finale on February 22, 2020.
  • Miles Mallory, Randolph-Macon, Jr., Forward

    Mallory, a junior from Beltsville, Md., earned his third weekly award of the season after helping unanimously top-ranked Randolph-Macon to a trio of ODAC victories to improve the Yellow Jackets records to 20-1 overall and 12-0 in conference play. Mallory averaged 18 points and shot 57.1-percent from the field over the three outings. He opened with 14 points and five rebounds in a 77-43 victory at Randolph. He was 7-of-12 from the field and chipped in an assist and a blocked shot in 24 minutes. Mallory then helped R-MC top second-place Guilford, 60-56, with 21 points and 11 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. He was 8-of-15 from the field and 5-of-7 from the foul line. Three of his boards came via the offensive glass. He added an assist and a steal to his line. Mallory capped his week with 19 points and five rebounds in a 72-67 win over Roanoke. He went 9-of-15 from the field and canned his lone foul shot. He pulled down four offensive caroms and blocked a pair of shots. For the season, Mallory is fifth in the ODAC in scoring (16.3) and fourth in rebounding (8.6). He leads the conference in blocked shots (53) and is third in field goals made (146-of-252), field goal shooting (57.9%), defensive rebounds (127), and total rebounds (181). He is fourth in offensive boards (54) and fifth in total points scored (342). Randolph-Macon has won 14 straight games and 37 of their last 38 outings dating back to the 2019-20 season. R-MC's lone blemish over that span is a one-point overtime loss to Christopher Newport in late November.
  • Buzz Anthony, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Guard

    Anthony, a senior from Arnold, Md., led nationally top-ranked Randolph-Macon to a trio of ODAC victories last week to keep the Yellow Jackets atop the league table at 17-1 overall and 9-0 against conference opponents. Anthony average 18.3 points and 7.0 assists and a 3.5 assist-to-turnover ratio (21 assists, 6 turnovers) over the three outings. He opened with 20 points and 9 assists against just one miscue in an 80-51 win over Bridgewater. He was 7-of-9 from the field shooting including 2-of-2 from deep and went 4-of-4 from the foul line. He added two rounds to his stat line. Anthony then went for 15 points with nine more assists in an 83-63 victory at Hampden-Sydney. He again buried two three-pointers and went 5-for-5 from the stripe. He chipped in three rebounds and two steals. In the final game of the week, Anthony dropped in 20 points with four boards and three assists in a 77-72 triumph at Washington and Lee. He made four shots from beyond the arc and again was perfect from the foul line as he went 2-for-2 to make him 11-for-11 for the week. He added three steals and a blocked shot defensively. For the season, Anthony leads the ODAC with 111 assists and is second in three-pointers made (44-of-103) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3). He is fourth in free throw shooting (84.4% - 38-of-45) and fifth in scoring (18.9), points scored (302), and steals (30). He is sixth in field goals made (110-of-218) and three-point shooting (42.7%). Anthony has collected 673 career assists, ranking him second in program history and just seven shy of the ODAC record. He is now a .872 shooter from the foul line for his career, ranking him second in both R-MC and conference history.
  • Alec Topper, Bridgewater, So., Forward

    Topper, a sophomore from Monroe, N.C., returned to the floor after a month away from competition and earned his second weekly award of the season after leading Bridgewater to its first two ODAC wins of the year. Topper opened with 23 points and a then career-high tying 10 rebounds in a 73-63 win over Eastern Mennonite. He was 9-of-15 from the field with two made three-pointers. Four of his rebounds came via the offensive glass. He also chipped in an assist, a steal, and a blocked shot. Topper then set new career-bests with 29 points and 12 rebounds in an 84-70 triumph over Randolph College. He was 11-of-15 from the field including 3-of-3 from downtown. He was also 4-of-5 from the foul line. He pulled down six offensive boards among his dozen caroms and added a pair of steals. For the season, Topper is averaging 13.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. His 32 offensive rebounds are sixth in the ODAC. He is ninth in field goal shooting (54.9% -- 56-of-102) and free throw shooting (78.8% -- 26-of-33). Topper's double-doubles were his second and third of the season.
  • Tim Fisher, Virginia Wesleyan, Sr., Forward

    Fisher, a senior from Richmond, Va., earns his first ODAC weekly award of the year after leading Virginia Wesleyan to a pair of ODAC victories last week. Fisher, a three-time All-ODAC honoree, averaged 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 70.8-percent (17-of-24) from the field and 75.0-percent (9-of-12) from the foul line over the two outings. He opened with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting in an 89-67 triumph over Bridgewater. He made 5-of-7 free throws and pulled down 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season. He added three assists, two steals, and a blocked shot to his line. Fisher then poured in 24 points and posted nine rebounds in an 89-72 road win at Ferrum. He was 10-of-15 from the field and canned 4-of-5 from charity stripe. He also notched four assists and a steal. For the season, Fisher is averaging 18.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per contest, which rank sixth and second in the ODAC, respectively. He is #1 in defensive rebounds (90), second in total rebounds (127) and field goal shooting (57.4%), third in field goals made (97-of-169) and offensive boards (37), and fourth in total points (240) and blocked shots (11).
  • Tim Jones, Eastern Mennonite, Gr., Point Guard
    January 10, 2022
    Jones, a graduate student from Forestville, Md., put together a big week in leading Eastern Mennonite to a pair of ODAC victories last week. Jones averaging 25.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 2.5 steals over the two outings, which included a new career-high 32 points in a 91-83 triumph over Washington and Lee. In that contest, he was 6-of-8 from three-point range and went 6-of-6 from the foul line. He finished 10-of-24 from the field and added nine rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Jones again filled the stat sheets in a 79-72 road win at Randolph College. He was 7-of-12 from the field on the way to 19 points. He chipped in four rebounds, six assists, and three steals to help the Royals improve to 3-1 in league play and 5-6 overall. For the season, Jones is averaging 15.8 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per contest. He leads the ODAC in assists (73) and is fourth in free throws made (43-of-68).
  • Kasey Draper, Roanoke, Jr., Guard/Forward

    Draper, a junior from Roanoke, Va., kicks off the 2022 calendar year with his second ODAC weekly award of the year after leading nationally 10th-ranked Roanoke to a 2-1 record with a trio of double-doubles during the holiday portion of the schedule. On December 20, Draper opened with 22 points and 11 rebounds in a 75-67 setback to Dubuque University. He also dished out four assists. Draper then earned MVP honors at the Cregger Classic hosted by Roanoke just before the calendar flipped to the new year. He came up just one point shy of a new career-best with 30 points in a 59-51 victory over Covenant. He was 11-of-19 from the field and pulled down 10 rebounds including six via the offensive glass. Draper capped his week with 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting in an 87-66 triumph over Buena Vista. He buried four three-pointers and collected 11 boards with four assists and a steal. For the season, Draper now has four double-doubles. He is second in the ODAC in points scored (234), field goals made (88-of-165), and free throws made (49-of-68). He is third in scoring (21.3 ppg), fifth in defensive rebounds (65) and total boards (82), and seventh in rebounding (7.5 rpg).
  • Alec Topper, Bridgewater, So., Forward

    Topper, a sophomore from Monroe, N.C., put together a strong outing off the bench in the Eagles 108-80 victory at Bethany (W.Va.) on Friday. Topper shot 81.8-percent from the field thanks to a 9-for-11 showing that including a 3-for-4 day beyond the arc. He was also 5-of-6 at the line on the way to a career-high 26 points. He also set a new personal-best mark with a game-high 10 rebounds including four via the offensive glass. He added two steals and a blocked shot in his 28-minute shift. For the season, Topper is averaging 10.8 points per game. He is fifth in the ODAC in foul shooting at 82.6-percent (19-of-23) and is shooting 50.0-percent (36-of-72) from the field.
  • Tharon Suggs, Lynchburg, Gr., Guard
    December 13, 2021
    Suggs, a graduate student from Raleigh, N.C., was a clutch performer in helping Lynchburg to a 1-1 week against strong non-conference competition. Suggs finished with 13 points at Salisbury, but it was the final four of the game that mattered most and he put Lynchburg ahead twice with under a minute to play, including the game-winning elbow jumper with 1.9 seconds for a 77-75 triumph over the Sea Gulls. He added four rebounds and a steal. Lynchburg, which is receiving votes towards the latest D3hoops.com Top-25 poll, then squared off with nationally 14th-ranked Christopher Newport. Suggs was 10-of-18 from the field and poured in a season-high 25 points in the Hornets 79-74 setback in Newport News. He hit a trio of three-pointers and dished out three assists with two rebounds and two steals. For the season, Suggs is averaging 14.0 points per game and is shooting 40.0-percent (14-of-35) from beyond the arc.
  • Jaylen Williams, Shenandoah, Jr., Guard

    Williams, a junior from Triangle, Va., helped Shenandoah kick off the ODAC season at 1-1 by averaging 34.5 points and shooting 68.3-percent from the field over the two outings. Williams set a new career-high with 40 points despite an 86-72 setback at Eastern Mennonite in their respective ODAC openers. He was 18-of-22 from the field with a trio of three-point field goals made. The 40 points are tied for 18th-most in Division III this season, while the 18 field goals made are tied for fifth-most this year. He added six rebounds, four assists, and a steal to his stat line. Williams put in a second 36-minute shift on the weekend in an 81-71 win over Ferrum. He scored 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field and 7-of-8 from the line. He added six rebounds and six assists with two steals. For the season, Williams leads the ODAC in scoring (22.9/g) and is third in total points (160) and defensive rebounds (48). He is averaging 7.9 rebounds per game.

    Mallory, a junior from Beltsville, Md., picks up his second weekly award after helping nationally top-ranked Randolph-Macon to a 1-1 showing against strong competition at the CNU Classic. Mallory averaged 19.5 points and 13.5 rebounds with seven blocked shots and six assists over the two contests. He shot 51.4-percent (18-of-35) from the field overall. Mallory opened with 11 points and 10 rebounds in a 78-58 triumph over nationally 24th-ranked New Jersey City University. He was 5-of-7 from the field and added two assists and two blocked shots. He then posted career-highs of 28 points and 17 rebounds in a 77-76 overtime loss to the host Captains, who are receiving votes towards the D3hoops.com Top-25. He was 13-of-28 from the field and dished out four assists with five blocked shots and a steal. For the season, Mallory leads the ODAC in total rebounds (72), offensive boards (22), and blocked shots (17). He is second in rebounding (10.3 rpg) and seventh in scoring (18.0 ppg). He has registered three double-doubles this season.

    Anthony, a senior from Arnold, Md., was named to the Great Lakes Invitational All-Tournament Team following a pair of career nights towards two ranked victories for nationally top-rated Randolph-Macon. The three-time ODAC Player of the Year and owner of multiple All-American plaques set a new career-high with 32 points on 14-of-21 shooting in an 88-74 triumph over 13th-ranked Emory University. He was 4-of-8 from deep and chipped in five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Anthony then tied his career best mark with 13 assists in an 82-74 victory over third-ranked and tournament hosts Marietta College (Ohio). He was 4-of-8 from the field including 2-of-2 from three-pointer territory and 5-of-6 from the line on the way to 15 points. He also notched a rebound and a steal. Through five games this season -- all R-MC wins -- Anthony is averaging 19.4 points per game in 35.8 minutes of floor time per contest. He leads the ODAC in assists (41), steals (8), and total points scored (97).

    Draper, a junior from Roanoke, Va., was named the MVP of the Dick Leftwich Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Roanoke College after leading the nationally 20th-ranked Maroons to a pair of victories. Draper opened with 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting in an 85-58 win over Eastern University. He added five rebounds and a steal. Draper then tied a career-high with 31 points in Roanoke's 77-68 victory over third-ranked Marietta College. He was 11-of-18 from the field and 7-of-8 from the line. He added eight rebounds and a pair of steals to his line. These were the first two games of the season for the Maroons, leaving Draper with averages of 28.0 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 63.6-percent (21-of-33) from the field.

    Mallory, a junior from Beltsville, Md., was named the MVP of the MMI Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Hood University as he helped the nationally top-ranked Yellow Jackets open the 2021-22 season with a pair of victories. Mallory started the year with 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field to go with nine rebounds in a 70-61 win over Carnegie Mellon University. He also registered four steals and a blocked shot. Mallory pulled down another nine boards to go with 16 points in an 84-63 triumph over the host Blazers. He was 8-of-11 from the field and chipped in two blocked shots and an assist.
