Lynchburg Close in Second, W&L Tabbed Third
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke College received 44
total points and five first place votes to lead the 2009 ODAC Men's
Lacrosse Preseason Poll. Lynchburg College, last year's
conference champion, sits in second with 41 poll points and the
remaining two top nods. Washington and Lee University rounds
out the top three with 38 tallies.
Roanoke (8-6, 2-4 ODAC in 2008) is coming off a year in which it
didn't make the ODAC Tournament for the first time in program
history. Retooling in the off-season has the Maroons set to
make a run at their 16th conference title. Back in
the fold is 2008 Rookie of the Year, Matt Quinton, who finished
second on the team with 50 points on 37 goals and 13 assists.
Pat March and Chas Carlson both return for their senior seasons,
joined by classmate Zach Thomas who lost all but one game to injury
last season. March led the squad with 57 points on 32 goals
and 25 assists last year. Carlson handed out a team-best 26
assists on his way to 40 points. In 2007, Thomas posted 71
points with 39 goals and 32 assists. Ashton Hotchkiss
provides yet another strong scoring option following a 43-point
season that included 27 goals in 2008.
Lynchburg (16-3, 6-0) claimed its third ODAC crown last year.
Although they'll be without all five of their All-ODAC First Team
selections following graduation, including 2008 ODAC Player of the
Year and Scholar-Athlete, Garrett Curran, the Hornets welcome back
a pair of their top scorers from a season ago. Tyler Tolson
finished second on the squad with 57 points on 42 goals and 15
assists. He, along with Michael Mundorf, was selected to the
All-ODAC Second Team. Mundorf was fourth for LC with 47
points on 24 goals and a team-best 23 assists.
Washington and Lee (9-6, 5-1) returns its top four scorers from
last season as the Generals go in search of their ninth conference
championship. Harry St. John led the team with 43 points on
30 goals and 13 assists. Will Englehart and Tim Skeen both
collected 42 total points. Englehart led the team with 37
goals while Skeen passed out a team-high 25 assists. Will
Keigler gives the Generals four 40-plus point scorers back on the
roster. He scored 16 goals to go with 24 assists to account
for his 40 points.
