Roanoke Puts Seven on First Team

SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke College placed seven players on the All-ODAC First Team as the conference announced the 2010 ODAC Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference Teams following a vote of the league’s coaches.  Hampden-Sydney College midfielder Kyle Jett secured both the ODAC Player of the Year honor as well as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete award.  Roanoke’s Bill Pilat was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year, and Lynchburg College’s Max Voumard earned ODAC Rookie of the Year recognition.

Jett, a senior from Suffolk, Va., played his way into a second straight first team nod after leading the ODAC in total points with 68.  The standout midfielder found the net 39 times, which tied for fourth in the conference, while also racking up an ODAC second-best 29 assists.  Jett proved dangerous in man-up situations as he led the league with 12 goals in that favorable scenario.  He recorded at least one point in each of 18 games played this season, and had three or more points in 13 contests.  He posted a season-high five goals in a 12-8 victory at Randolph-Macon College in the Tigers regular season finale.

In the classroom, Jett boasts a 3.568 grade point average while majoring in economics.  A member of the Hampden-Sydney Dean’s List for six semesters, Jett has been an honoree on the All-ODAC Academic Team each of the past three years.  He is a recipient of a Hampden-Sydney Presidential Scholarship as well as the 2010 Joshua White Sportsmanship Award.  Jett is also a math and rhetoric tutor, and is a member of the Student Development Club and the Ducks Unlimited Club conservation group.

Pilat takes home his ninth ODAC top coaching honor and his first since winning three straight awards from 2005-07.  Pilat guided his Maroons to a 14-2 overall and 7-0 ODAC record during the regular season, and has added one more victory in the conference tournament to set up a championship clash with Lynchburg.  Roanoke is currently ranked fifth in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) NCAA Division III Coaches Poll (as of May 2).

Voumard, a freshman midfielder from Cape May, N.J., sits sixth on the Lynchburg points list with 27 markers in his first season in the Hill City.  His 20 goals scored are fourth on the squad as the team prepares for the ODAC title game on May 9.  Voumard registered 10 multi-point games in 17 played, and notched a season-high three goals in regular season victories over Hampden-Sydney and Guilford.
