W&L Falls to Salisbury in NCAA Second Round

Generals Eliminated from Tournament Play

LEXINGTON, Va. --- First-year attackman Brady Dashiell (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) scored the first two goals of the game as the 12th-ranked Seagulls built an early 4-0 lead en route to a 7-4 win over eighth-ranked Washington and Lee in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.

Dashiell opened the scoring just 1:19 into the contest when he scored unassisted, and he upped the lead to 2-0 at the 10:53 mark when he scored off a feed from junior attackman Rhett DePol (Chester, Md./St. Mary's).  The Seagulls (16-5) extended to a 3-0 lead with just 1.5 seconds left in the opening quarter when sophomore midfielder Kyle Goss (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) found the net off an assist from senior attackman Evan Hammersly (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield).

DePol made it 4-0 just 28 seconds into the second quarter, but the Generals (16-5) got on the board at the 9:43 mark when senior attackman Mac Means (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) scored unassisted.  Sophomore attackman Tyler Goldman (New York, N.Y./Loomis Chaffee) scored unassisted just 1:29 later to give W&L some momentum and pull the Generals within 4-2.  Salisbury wrestled the momentum back heading into the half when sophomore defenseman Knute Kraus (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Tesoro) scored man-down in transition with 2:04 left before the break.

The Seagulls tallied the only score of the third period when junior attackman Luke Phipps (Street, Md./John Carroll) scored unassisted at the 5:19 mark.  However, the Generals would make a run early in the fourth with two straight goals to make it 6-4.  Goldman scored unassisted at 11:55 and Means scored in transition off a feed from senior midfielder Cooper Brown(Baltimore, Md./Gilman) with 8:08 remaining.  But, that was as close as W&L would get, and Dashiell scored his third goal off a feed from sophomore attackman Jesse Rabishaw (Sharon, Ontario/Culver Academy) with 2:30 left for the final margin.

Goldman and Means each scored two goals to lead the Generals in scoring.  Sophomore Warren Berenis (Ocoee, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) was solid in goal, posting 11 saves.

Dashiell's three goals paced the Seagulls.  DePol added one goal and one assist, while junior goalkeeper Alex Taylor (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) posted 11 saves in net.

Washington and Lee's season ends with a school-record 16 victories (16-5).  Salisbury advances to the quarterfinals on Wednesday when it will take on Dickinson.
