Conference Athletes Recognized Via 21 Different Honors

PERRY, N.Y. --- Lynchburg College defenseman Jon Gill leads a long list of student-athletes garnering postseason recognition from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Assocation.  Gill is one of four ODAC representatives on USILA All-American Teams, while five others earned honorable mention status.  The USILA also recognized its Scholar All-Americans and those competing in the annual North/South All-Star Game.

Gill, a senior from Avondale, Pa., is the ODAC's lone representative on the USILA All-America First Team.  A third team choice in 2013, Gill is a two-time All-ODAC First Team selection.  Regarded as one of the best one-on-one defenders in the league, he finished fourth with 28 caused turnovers while also corralling 50 ground balls.  His efforts helped lead LC to a 8.06 goals-against-average, third-best in the ODAC.

Virginia Wesleyan attackman Josh Currier represents the ODAC on the second team.  A native of Peterborough, Ontario, the 2014 ODAC Player of the Year set the conference record for most points in a season with 100 markers, making him the first player in ODAC history to crack the century mark.  Currier, a sophomore, led the league with 46 assists and finished third with 54 goals.

A pair of Maroons earned a spot on the third team as defenseman Michael Packo and goalkeeper Charles Pease represent Roanoke College.  Packo, a senior from Lutherville, Md., caused seven turnovers and picked up 37 ground balls.  His efforts, along with those of Pease, helped the Maroons to a 7.90 GAA by allowing just 135 goals, both second in the ODAC.  Pease, a senior from Landisville, Pa., made 182 saves that helped him to a 8.00 GAA.  His save percentage of 59.1-percent ranked second in the league.

Five ODAC standouts earned honorable mention All-America status.  That includes Hampden-Sydney College midfielder Thomas Armstrong (30 G, 16 A), Lynchburg attackman Aaron Murphy (49 G, 40 A) and midfielder Campbell Armstrong (34 G, 8 A), Virginia Wesleyan attackman Nick Pappas (55 G, 30 A), and Washington and Lee University midfielder Joe Wood (23 G, 18 A).

Virginia Wesleyan College head coach J.P. Stewart will be joined by his assistant, Luke Reilly, as the head and assistant coaches for the South squad in the North/South All-Star Game.  The South roster boasts the six ODAC stars, including five that received All-America consideration.  Lynchburg's Gill and Armstrong are joined by Packo from Roanoke, Pappas from Virginia Wesleyan and Wood from W&L.  Randolph-Macon College midfielder Jason Andrews (52 G, 19 A) will also suit up for the South.

Four conference student-athletes earned recognition as USILA Scholar All-Americans.  To earn this distinction, a student-athlete must be a senior-standing and have maintained a 3.0 or better cumulative grade-point-average.  Hampden-Sydney is represented by a pair in long-stick midfielder Ned Bowden and midfielder Bobby Fulton.  Randolph-Macon's Andrews also picked up the honor, as did Washington and Lee short-stick specialist Jared Mitchell.
