CHESTERTOWN, Md. --- Washington College outscored the Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team 7-3 in the second half Saturday afternoon and WC captured a 10-7 victory in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Hornets got on the scoreboard first, as David Alyankian found the back of the net three minutes in. The Shoremen closed out the first period with three unassisted tallies to take a 3-1 lead heading into the second period.

Alyankian fed Austin Stewart to cut the lead to 3-2, and Alyankian tied the score on a pass from Aaron Murphy at the 6:41 mark. Stewart put Lynchburg ahead 4-3 with three minutes left in the half.

Washington College entered the second half with a man-advantage following a Lynchburg two-minute un-releasable penalty at the end of the first half.  The Shoremen capitalized twice on the man-up situation to assume a 5-4 lead early in the third period. LC retook the lead after goals from Todd Galvin and Stewart, but WC scored twice in the last 47 seconds of the third quarter to take a 7-6 edge entering the fourth quarter.

Sid Looney made the count 8-6 with a goal for Washington at 11:36 of the fourth. Alyankian fired in a tally at 9:35 from Armstrong to cut the lead to one with 9:35 on the game clock. JD Campbell scored a man-up goal for WC to re-take a two-goal edge, and LC had several scoring opportunities late but could not convert. The Shoremen scored a goal with one second on the clock to close out the game.

Alyankian had three goals and an assist for LC, while Stewart also had a hat trick. Murphy had two assists. Troy Foreit won 4-of-7 face-offs, Jon Gill scooped five ground balls and caused two turnovers, while Luke Ernst had three groundballs and caused two turnovers.

The Hornets end the season 17-5 and the loss snaps a 10-game winning streak. Lynchburg won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title in 2014 and advanced into the NCAA Tournament's second-round for the second-straight season.

Kodie Englehart and Stephen Luck each had two scores for Washington.  Michael Trapp won 14-of-19 face-off chances and had nine groundballs. Ted DiSalvo made 11 saves.

Washington College (17-1) will face the Stevenson University/Cabrini College winner Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.
