2018 Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week

  • John Burke, Hampden-Sydney, Jr., Midfielder

    Burke, a junior from Richmond, Va., registered five points on three goals and two assists to go with a pair of ground balls in the Tigers season-ending 14-13 win over Lynchburg. The victory wrapped up the #2 seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. Two of Burke's goals proved especially poignant, especially his final tally. Twice he put Hampden-Sydney ahead late in the contest with goals, his first coming with 1:28 to play for a 13-12 advantage. After Lynchburg tied the game 13-all with 0:40 to go, Burke brought the drama to a head with the game's final goal with 7.8-seconds on the clock to clinch a 14-13 victory. Burke has enjoyed a career-best season with 41 points on 21 goals and 20 assists, the latter of which ranks 10th in the ODAC.
  • Jason Sarro, Roanoke, So. Attackman

    Sarro, a sophomore from Baltimore, Md., put together a 15-point week as Roanoke registered a pair of ODAC victories to remain in the mix at the top of the ODAC standings. Sarro opened with a career-high nine points on three goals and six assists in a 25-4 triumph over Bridgewater. He also picked up a ground ball. Sarro then registered six points on three goals and three assists in a 16-9 road win at Virginia Wesleyan. He added two ground balls in that contest. For the season, Sarro is second in the ODAC with 70 points, eighth in goals scored with 31, and #1 in the league with 39 assists.
  • A.J. Witherell, Washington and Lee, Jr., Attackman

    Witherell, a junior from Wilmington, Del., was both effective and efficient in registering seven points in the nationally 13th-ranked Generals 18-5 victory at Bridgewater. Witherell scored six goals and dished out one assist towards Washington and Lee's scoring effort. He needed just seven shots to do it as he put six of his seven shots on goal. He also picked up three ground balls and caused a turnover. Witherell is currently tied for the ODAC lead with Ian Levin from Hampden-Sydney at 61 points. He has scored 38 goals and dished out 23 assists, both of which rank third in the league. Witherell now has 204 points for his career, making him just the seventh player in program history to top 200 career points. His 123 goals rank fifth all-time at W&L.
  • Ian Levin, Hampden-Sydney, Sr., Attackman

    Levin, a senior from Chapel Hill, N.C., helped lead the Tigers to a pair of ODAC victories including a nationally-ranked triumph. Levin opened with four goals and an assist to go with two ground balls and a caused turnover in a 20-11 win over Virginia Wesleyan. He followed that with four goals and two more helpers in a 10-9 triumph over nationally 16th-ranked Roanoke. He added a ground ball to his line. For the season, Levin is tied for the top spot in the ODAC with 54 points. He is second in assists (22) and third in goals scored (32).
  • Ian Davies, Roanoke, Jr., Goalkeeper
    April 02, 2018
    Davies, a junior from Ambler, Pa., combined for 35 saves in a pair of wins for nationally 18th-ranked Roanoke, including a top-20 matchup. Davies opened with 16 saves in the Maroons 9-8 victory over nationally 15th-ranked Christopher Newport. He registered 10 of his saves in the second half as Roanoke outscored CNU, 6-3, to erase a 5-3 halftime deficit. Davies was back in front of net in the Maroons 13-11 triumph over Lynchburg. He registered 19 saves for the contest, including seven in the a second quarter in which RC outscored LC, 5-1. He also came away with eight second-half stops, including five in the final frame. For the season, Davies leads the ODAC in both saves (135) and save percentage (.587).
  • Jack Hodgson, Washington and Lee, So., Face-Off Specialist

    Hodgson, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., played a pivotal in a nationally-ranked matchup with Roanoke College. Hodgson took all 25 face-offs for Washington and Lee and won 20-of-25 showdowns to help the Generals to an 11-10 comeback victory at home. Hodgson was perfect in the fourth quarter, winning all five face-offs and was 9-of-11 for the second half as the Generals outscored the Maroons, 8-1, over the final 30 minutes of play. Hodgson also picked up a game-high 13 ground balls. For the season, Hodgson leads the ODAC with 134 face-off wins (134-of-212; .632) and is second with 52 ground balls.
  • Jack Taylor, Washington and Lee, Fr., Goalkeeper
    March 19, 2018
    Taylor, a freshman from Baltimore, Md., put together a strong effort between the pipes in guiding Washington and Lee to a pair of victories, including the program's first win over a nationally top-five ranked team in three years. Taylor made 19 saves on the week, including 11 stops in the Generals 13-8 triumph over third-ranked Gettysburg. Taylor was back at in in a 12-6 league victory at Randolph-Macon. He made eight saves in a full 60 minutes of action, giving him a .576 save percentage over 120 minutes for the week. Taylor is currently second in the ODAC with a .581 save percentage and first in fewest goals allowed (26) among qualified goalkeepers.
  • Evan Lombardo, Lynchburg, Jr., Attack
    March 12, 2018
    Lombardo, a junior from Franklin Park, N.J., put together a 14-point week as Lynchburg picked up a pair of victories. Lombardo opened with five goals and a ground ball in a 21-7 victory over conference foe Bridgewater. He was at it again in a 21-7 triumph over non-conference opponent Elizabethtown College. He registered a career-high seven goals to go with two assists and two ground balls. For the season, Lombardo leads the ODAC with 22 goals scored and is second in points with 27.
  • A.J. Witherell, Washington and Lee, Jr., Attack

    Witherell, a junior from Wilmington, Del., registered seven points in the Generals 12-10 victory over nationally 11th-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Witherell scored five times and dished out three assists. Two of his goals came within the first minute of the contest on the way to four goals and a helper before the break. He also picked up six ground balls and caused a turnover in the contest, helping W&L snap a three-game losing skid to F&M. For the season, Witherell leads the ODAC in points (24) with the second-best marks for goals scored (15) and assists (9).
  • Sean MacLeish, Bridgewater, Jr., Attack
    February 26, 2018
    MacLeish, a junior from Wyoming, Del., was at the forefront of a pair of non-conference victories to help the Eagles move to 3-0 atop the conference standings. MacLeish opened with five points on three goals and two assists in an 11-10 road win at Ferrum. He added a ground ball and caused one turnover. He again forced one miscue and picked up four loose balls in a 13-10 win over Marymount (Va.). He registered six points in the contest, scoring twice and dishing out four assists. Three of his points came in a decisive 4-0 run in the first five minutes of the third quarter. For the season, MacLeish is tied for second in the ODAC with six assists. His 11 points this past week are his first of the season.
  • Garritt Schwarz, Roanoke, Fr. Attack

    Schwarz, a freshman from Tallahassee, Fla., announced his presence without much doubt in his first collegiate game, racking up nine points in the Maroons' 15-10 season-opening win over Colorado College. Schwarz found the back of the net eight times and dished out an assist. He also picked up four ground balls. He registered five of Roanoke's seven goals in a decisive third period in which RC broke open a 5-4 halftime-edge.
  • Hunter Brown, Hampden-Sydney, Sr., Midfielder
    February 12, 2018
    Brown, a senior from Charlottesville, Va., got his season started off with a pair of solid efforts in the Tigers' 1-1 showing. In the season-opening setback (16-7) to nationally top-ranked Salisbury, Brown registered two goals and two assists to go with three ground balls. He nearly duplicated his line in a winning effort at Mary Washington as he again fired home two goals with two more helpers and a pair of ground balls in a 16-10 triumph.
