  • Richardson Resigns as E&H Men's Soccer Coach, Grillet Named Interim

    After seven seasons at Emory & Henry, Robert Richardson has resigned as the Wasps men's soccer head coach. Assistant coach Didier Grillet has been elevated to interim head coach for the 2020 season.

    Director of Athletics John Sutyak has announced that Felix Vu has been named interim head men's soccer coach at Ferrum College. Vu came to Ferrum a year ago as the assistant men's soccer coach.

    Senior defender Oliver Dolberg (Clovis, Calif./Floyd B. Buchanan) scored in the 81st minute to power the No. 11 Washington and Lee men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over N.C. Wesleyan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
  • Roanoke Ties Swarthmore, Eliminated on Penalty Kicks
    November 16, 2019
    Roanoke men's soccer nearly picked up a first round win in its first NCAA contest since 2012 on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons played Swarthmore College to a 2-2 draw thru regulation and the two overtime periods, resulting in a deciding penalty shootout. The Garnet won the shootout 4-2 to advance to the second round.

    Hampden-Sydney College earned two major individual honors and Washington and Lee University and Roanoke College tied with a league-high eight all-conference selections each to headline the 2019 All-ODAC Men's Soccer Awards. Tigers' midfielder Spell Carr received ODAC Player of the Year laurels from the league's head coaches, while Generals' mentor Mike Singleton earned his second straight ODAC Coach of the Year award. University of Lynchburg forward Luke Mega secured ODAC Rookie of the Year honors, and H-SC defender Eli Strong earned ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition from the ODAC's sports information directors.
  • NCAA BRACKET | Roanoke Joins W&L in NCAA Men's Soccer Field

    The NCAA revealed the Division III Men's Soccer Tournament bracket on Monday afternoon with not one but two ODAC schools featured in its ranks. Nationally 11th-ranked Washington and Lee University, winners of the ODAC title and the league's automatic bid to field, will be joined by #14 Roanoke College as the Maroons earned an at-large selection from the NCAA men's soccer committee. Washington and Lee has the added privilege of hosting a first and second round pod.

    Junior midfielder Harris Salom (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) scored in the 81st minute to lift the 11th-ranked and second-seeded Washington and Lee men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Lynchburg to claim the 2019 ODAC championship.

  • ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament | 9-Team Field Set

    Not a single seed in the ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament was determined before the final night of competition, and the final standings left four ties to sift thru by the end of all six games on Tuesday evening. That did not include the top two seeds as Hampden-Sydney College and Washington and Lee University earned their placements outright as the first and second seeds, respectively, in the nine-team field. Roanoke College and the University of Lynchburg deadlocked for third position. The second step in the league's tiebreaking procedure, which awards points for game's won against common opponents, awarded the Maroons the third seed and the Hornets the fourth seed. Both will join Hampden-Sydney and Washington and Lee as quarterfinal hosts.

    When you are riding a 15-game unbeaten streak and only gave up three goals once the calendar showed October, you generally find yourself in good position in preseason rankings. That is exactly the case for Washington and Lee University as the Generals return to the top of the ODAC Men's Soccer Preseason Poll heading into the 2019 campaign. League coaches awarded nine first place votes to W&L on the way to program picking up 138 total points. The University of Lynchburg sits second at 132 tallies including three top nods, and Roanoke College rounds out the top-three with 119 marks. Just three points back is Bridgewater College in fourth. The Eagles secured the remaining first place vote.
