Washington and Lee Learns NCAA Men's Tennis Opening Round Location

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Washington and Lee University is set to represent the ODAC in the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on Monday afternoon. This season's national field is comprised of 43 squads from across the country.

Like the Generals, 35 schools won their conference tournaments, awarding them automatic qualification into the field. Three were allotted to true independent teams (or those playing in conference's without an AQ) in "Pool B," while the remaining five spots went to at-large selections in "Pool C."

Washington and Lee (15-7) earned a bye thru the first round of competition and will play in a four-team pod that opens play in round two at Emory University. The Generals meet the host Eagles (17-2) in the first outing. EU earned its spot by winning the University Athletic Association (UAA) championship. The other second round matchup in Atlanta will be Sewanee (22-6) versus N.C. Wesleyan College (21-2). Sewanee won the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) title, while NCWC claimed the USA South hardware.

The two winners from the second round play the next day in round three for a shot at a berth in the quarterfinals.

Early round action is set for the weekend of May 9-12 with days of play based on the location. The eight teams that come out of pod play will head to Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Mich., on May 20-22 for the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds and ultimately the championship match.
