Maroons' 4x100 Relay Team Finishes Second at NCAA Track Champs

SALEM, Va. --- Several of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) top track and field performers were in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, this past weekend, competing at the 2007 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships.

Roanoke College led a strong ODAC contingent with a pair of high-profile performances.  Robin Yerkes, the 2007 ODAC women's track Freshman of the Year, finished fifth in the 200-meter dash, stopping the watches in 25.19 seconds to earn All-America status for the season.  She also added a ninth place showing in the 400-meter dash (57.12) to cap an impressive rookie season.

Lynchburg College's Andy Rollins joined Yerkes on the All-America team.  The ODAC men's pole vault champion finished tied for seventh in the nationals, clearing 4.81 meters (15'9 1/4).

The Maroons 4x100-meter relay team placed second during its competition, registering a new Roanoke College and ODAC-record time of 46.67 seconds.  The group of JaLeesa Osborne, Yerkes, Kate Mason and Tonya Phillippe came 0.35 seconds away from winning the national title.

In the heptathlon, Washington & Lee University's Stacy Doornbos and Roanoke's Meredith Withers finished 14th and 15th, respective.  Through the seven-event competition, Doornbos placed fourth in the 800-meter run (2:22.89) and fifth in both the 200-meter dash (25.61) and the long jump (5.11 meters) to help her to 4,329 total points.  Withers posted 4,254 points that included a seventh place showing in the shot put (10.11 meters) and a ninth place finish in the 800-meter run (2:28.65).

Lynchburg's Travis Wray also made some noise on the men's side.  Wray placed 12th in the 1,500-meter run, clocking in at 3:57.97 seconds.
