  • Three Honored as Top ODAC Track Athletes

    Lynchburg's James Bell (pictured) was joined by fellow Hornet Jessica Gibbs and Roanoke's Carmen Graves in being named the ODAC Men's and Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Year. All three competed in the NCAA Championships last month in Delaware, Ohio, and were standout performers throughout the ODAC season.
  • ODAC Names Jopson, Berkley Winners

    Three student-athletes earned the conference's top awards in a vote of the ODAC Board of Directors at the annual league meetings earlier this week. W&L's Greg Kurkis was recognized as the Doc Jopson Award winner. BC's Christina Rhodes and W&L's Emmy Mathews will share the Marge Berkely Award., marking the first tie in Berkely Award history.
  • Smith, Bell All-Americans at Track Champs

    Guilford sprinter Johnathan Smith (pictured) and Lynchburg decathlete James Bell secured All-America honors at the 2011 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships this weekend at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. Smith was honored with a pair of top awards for his efforts in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.
  • NCAA Track Preview: Rhodes Honored

    On the eve of the 2011 NCAA Division III Track Championships, Bridgewater's Christina Rhodes (pictured with head coach Shane Stevens) earned an unexpected honor for the second straight year. She was honored with the NCAA's Elite 88 Award, given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at each of the NCAA's 88 championships.
  • Lynchburg Wins Dual Track Championships

    Lynchburg College claimed both the men's and women's track & field team championships on Saturday afternoon, marking the third straight ODAC outdoor track and field title for the men's team and 25th overall. The Hornet women won their first outdoor title since 2005 and their eighth overall.
  • ODAC Set for ODAC Track Championships

    Roanoke College is set to serve as host of the 2011 ODAC Track & Field Championships on Friday afternoon and Saturday. Action at Alumni Field and C. Homer Bast Track begins on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and continues on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. It all comes to a close with the awards ceremony at 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening.

  • EMU Cross Country/Track Tabs New Coach

    Eastern Mennonite University has announced the hiring of Jason Lewkowicz as its cross country and track & field coach. Lewkowicz will finish out the 2010-11 athletic year at Hannibal-LaGrange University, where he holds the same position, before moving to Harrisonburg this summer to take over the reins of the Royals' program. Lewkowicz replaces Matt Dougherty.
  • Dr. Toms Inducted in USTFCCCA Hall

    Lynchburg's Dr. Jack Toms was one of six individuals to be inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame. Toms joined Cleve Abbott of Tuskegee, Doug Watts of Edinboro, Bert Lyle of Texas Woman’s University, Jeanette Bolden of UCLA and Chick Hislop of Weber State in the Class of 2010. Very few non-Division I coaches have been inducted in the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame.
  • LC Track Dedicated to Dr. Jack Toms

    Homecoming arrived at Lynchburg College the weekend of Oct. 8-10, and as one would expect, events were aplenty. One such occasion recognized former Lynchburg cross country and track & field mentor and current Hornets' Director of Athletics, Dr. Jack Toms, in which the track was named in his honor.
  • Thomasey to Head LC Track, Cross Country

    Lynchburg new director of cross country and track and field is anything but a new face to the program. Doug Thomasey '05 was named Wednesday to replace legendary mentor Dr. Jack Toms and will over-see all six highly successful Hornet programs.
