RC's Graves and VWC's Lott Named ODAC Track Top Athletes

Duo Shined Indoors and Outdoors in 2012-13

FOREST, Va. --- Roanoke College standout Carmen Graves and Virginia Wesleyan College star Randy Lott were named the 2013 ODAC Track & Field Athletes of the Year in a vote of the league's head coaches.  The recently graduated Graves earns the conference's top track distinction for the third straight season, while Lott secures his first best-in-sport honor heading into his senior campaign.

Graves, from Christiansburg, Va., won five All-American awards during her Maroons' career, picking up two of those honors in 2012-13.  She completed her eligibility as the record-holder in five individual ODAC overall or championship meet events, as well as a member of relay teams that occupy top positions in three other overall or conference championship marks.

During the 2012-13 indoor season, Graves set the overall ODAC record in the mile run (4:58.17), while joining her teammates in established a new league overall standard in the 4x400-meter relay (3:58.70).  At the conference championships, Graves won the 800-meter (2:16.80) and mile (5:07.85) runs, both in record fashion.  She also was a member of the record-setting 4x400-meter relay team (3:59.58).  She went on to place second in both the long (16' 10.5") and triple (36' 2.0") jumps.  At the 2013 NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships, Graves earned All-America recognition by placing second in the 800-meter run (2:10.75).

Outdoors, Graves set the overall league mark in the 1,500-meter run (4:32.83) and the 4x400-meter relay (3:52.64).  At the conference championships, she won the 800-meter run (2:13.91) and set yet another ODAC record.  She also captured titles in the 1,500-meter run (4:52.14), triple jump (36' 4.25") and the 4x400-meter relay (4:01.72), while placing third in the long jump (16' 8.0").  At the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Graves finished fifth in the 800-meters (2:09.99; 2:09.56 in prelims) to secure her fifth All-American accolade.

Lott, a rising senior from Virginia Beach, Va., won the 60-meter dash (6.94) at the ODAC indoor championships at Liberty University's Tolsma Indoor Track.  The judges had to go to film to decide the 200-meter dash title as both Lott and Lynchburg College's Tom Sippie stopped the watches in 22.51 (Sippie was awarded first place points).  Lott also helped the Marlins to a second place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (3:26.84).

During the outdoor campaign, Lott was named the South/Southeast Region Male Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA (www.ustfccca.org).  He won both the 100-meter (10.77) and 200-meter (21.78) dashes.  His 100-meter victory marked his third straight triumph in the event.  Lott also aided in the VWC's third place showing in the 4x400-meter relay (3:21.18) and fourth place finish in the 4x100-meter relay (43.04).

At the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Lott competed in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.  He placed 15th in the 200-meters (21.82) and came in 17th in the 100-meters (10.87).
