BC's Womack, Hiegel Highlight ODAC Athletes Thru Day 2 at NCAA Track

GENEVA, Ohio --- Davonta Womack went record hunting and both he and Jamie Hiegel earned All-American honors as the Bridgewater duo highlights performances by ODAC athletes thru the first two days of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The season-ending meet concludes on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Thirteen of the ODAC's group of 15 athletes have seen action with the remaining two set to compete on Saturday. Eastern Mennonite's Grant Amoateng will end his wait at 11:00 a.m. in the triple jump, the day's first event. BC's English Jackson is nearly on the opposite side of the ledger as she will toe the start line in the 5,000-meter run at 3:00 p.m., fourth-from-last on the day's schedule. All times are ET.

Womack has been especially impressive over the first two days, seeing action in all three events in which he qualified. He earned All-American honors in the long jump, finishing sixth overall at 7.41 meters (24-3.75). It is by far a career-best leap, topping his effort from two weeks prior by nearly a foot.

The ODAC Indoor and Outdoor Track Athlete of the Meet qualified for the finals in both of his running events, etching his name in the conference and BC record books in one. Womack placed third in the 100-meter prelims at 0:10.50, tying the ODAC record set by Virginia Wesleyan's Randy Lott in 2014. It is also the ninth-fastest time in the event in meet history. Womack along with teammates Diante Cannon, Alex Galloway, and Dirk Jones qualified for the 4x100-meter relay finals after placing seventh in the prelims at 0:41.33. The finals for that event are set for 12:15 p.m., while Womack will cap his weekend in the 100-dash finals at 1:40 p.m.

Hiegel put the wraps on a stellar distance career with an All-American award in the 10,000-meter run. The two-time ODAC cross country champion finished fifth in his final collegiate run at 30:32.28.

One other athlete qualified for a Saturday final. The Eagles' Calista Ariel chimed in seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 10:53.05. She goes for top prize at 11:30 a.m.

Both of Bridgewater's remaining competitors saw action on day one. Emily Valle stopped the watches 10th in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:02.68, just a half-second shy of her collegiate-best run. Tye Meador placed 13th in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.58 meters (18-3.75).

Shenandoah's Shamyra Wilkerson sprinted in both of her events and established new personal-bests in each. She earned a 10th-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 0:24.95, and slotted 17th in the 100-meter dash in 0:12.15.

Eastern Mennonite's Michaela Chowning exceeded her expectations after missing the indoor campaign due to injury. Despite a bump to the bar, the ODAC high jump champion cleared 1.61 meters (5-3.25) to match a host of others in 14th position. Based on number of attempts, Chowning was slotted 21st overall.

In the men's ranks, Lynchburg's Julian Douglas concluded his sophomore season with a 17th-place showing in the long jump. He posted a mark of 6.93 meters (22-9.00), the best jump of his career.

Randolph's Darren Petty and Washington and Lee's Will Pranka competed in their respective hurdles events. Petty, the only athlete in WildCats history to qualify for the NCAA indoor and outdoor championships, placed 19th in the 110-meter hurdles at 0:18.12. Pranka stopped the watches 10th in the 400-meter hurdles at 0:53.65, just 0.30-seconds off his personal-best.
