TYLER, Texas --- Randolph-Macon saw its historic softball season come to a close on Friday afternoon in their second contest of the national championship series in the 2019 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament hosted by the University of Texas at Tyler at Suddenlink Field in Tyler, Texas.

The Yellow Jackets (30-17) dropped their first two games in the Lonestar State, ending their participation in the double-elimination format. R-MC fell to Emory University, 7-5, on Thursday, marking the second ODAC team the Eagles have knocked out of the national field (Lynchburg in the super regional round). R-MC's second setback came to Illinois Wesleyan University, 5-3, on Friday.

Randolph-Macon's 2019 campaign was the most successful in terms of tournament advancement in program history. This was the Yellow Jackets fourth overall and third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, each in the past five years under head coach Kevin Proffitt. R-MC won four games en route to claiming regional and super regional crowns. That afforded the Yellow Jackets their first ever trip to the final series among the nation's final eight teams.

R-MC won 70 games the past two seasons, including a program-record 40 wins in 2018. The pitcher responsible for many of those victories, Candace Whittemore will graduate as the program's record-holder in wins (74), strikeouts (594), and ERA (1.77). The victory and strikeout totals are second in ODAC history, while her 658.0 innings pitched rank third.

Savannah Wood, who spent three seasons in R-MC lemon and black following a transfer from James Madison University, nearly set a new team record for career hits. She'll have to "settle" for the single-season record with 61 knocks this year.

Randolph-Macon's NCAA record now stands at 10-9 (.526) following a 4-3 mark in this year's bracket, its fourth appearance in the Division III Tournament. R-MC was one of a record four ODAC teams to make the NCAA field, joining Emory & Henry College, University of Lynchburg, and Virginia Wesleyan University. The four combined for 134 wins in 2019.
