    After chatting with Virginia Wesleyan pitcher Hanna Hull about winning Academic All-American of the Year laurels for Division III softball, we caught up with her head coach, Brandon Elliott, to get his take on the honor as well as all things Marlin and ODAC softball.

    The ODAC had a chance to catch up with Virginia Wesleyan softball standout lefty Hanna Hull on Friday morning. She is no stranger to big awards, having helped the Marlins to two national championships and twice being named the best player in Division III by the NFCA. This time, however, she picked up a different type of honor as the CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year for Division III softball.

    The awards case for Hanna Hull was already full, but the Virginia Wesleyan University lefty will have to make room for not one but two more honors. Hull was named a First Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday afternoon, but the recognition did not stop there. The Marlins senior also earned Academic All-American of the Year for softball.

    Softball joined the fray of active sports over the past week-plus with indoor track continuing its season in preparation for the ODAC championships in a little less than two weeks. Those earning weekly awards in men's and women's indoor track & field and softball include (headshots, left-to-right, top-to-bottom): Davonta Womack (MITF) and Felicia Clements (WITF) from Bridgewater, Nikki Doherty (WITT) from Washington and Lee, Alex Shadkhoo (MITT) from Lynchburg, Cameron Derr (SBALL) from Emory & Henry, and Cortney Rawes (SBALL) from Lynchburg.
  • ODAC Softball Preseason Poll | Marlins Perched at the Top
    February 05, 2020
    Three schools picked up first place consideration in the annual ODAC Softball Preseason Poll, but a familiar name sits at the top with four-time reigning ODAC champion Virginia Wesleyan University leading the coach's survey. The Marlins collected nine top nods on the way to 99 points. Emory & Henry College and the University of Lynchburg each picked up one first place vote with just one point separating the pair. The Wasps earned 85 markers, while the Hornets cap the the top-three with 84 tallies. Randolph-Macon College, last season's ODAC runner-up and national championship qualifier, sits fourth with 77 points.
