Elliott Earns 500th Win as Marlins Down Farmingdale State

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan softball team defeated the Rams of Farmingdale State College on Saturday morning in the 2021 NCAA Regional Tournament hosted at TowneBank Park in Virginia Beach, VA. Head Coach Brandon Elliott earned his 500th career coaching win with the 7-1 victory.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Virginia Wesleyan got on the board in the second inning as a single by Ariana Rolle down the right field line scored Katelyn Biando and Krissy D'arco to give VWU a 2-0 lead. 
  • Neither team scored in the third and the Marlins struck again in the top of the fourth adding three runs to take a 5-0 advantage. 
  • Madison Glaubke single scored Rolle for the first run while Glaubke came home on a single by Danielle Stewart for the second, and Julia Sinnett scored the third on a groundout by Biando to the firstbaseman. 
  • D'Arco and Rolle came home in the top of the fifth for the last two VWU runs giving the Marlins a 7-0 lead. 
  • Farmingdale evaded the shutout by batting one run across in the bottom of the seventh as the Marlins won 7-1.

KEY STATS

  • Ariana Rolle led the team scoring two runs on three hits while driving in two RBI in four at bats. 
  • Madison Glaubke drove in a pair of RBI while Krissy D'Arco scored twice. 
  • The team as a whole recorded nine stolen bases with Rolle recording three and Glaubke two. 
  • Emily Seale (W: 19-2) picked up the win throwing five innings giving up no runs on three hits and striking out one. 
  • Julia Piotrowski pitched the last two innings allowing one run on two while striking out two.
