BRITTANEY BROWN, Virginia Wesleyan, Senior - Pitcher

Brown, a senior from Chesapeake, Va., picks up her second straight ODAC Pitcher of the Week award, also marking the third she's won this season.  Brown made eight appearances in an 8-0 week for the Marlins and pitched complete games against Chowan, Mary Washington, Randolph, and Lynchburg.  She entered in relief to finish the second games against all four teams.  Brown picked up six victories in the impressive stretch to improve to 17-6 overall.  She struck out a total of 38 batters over 37.2 innings of work, including a season-high 13 in the first game against Chowan, the second highest single-game total in Marlin history.  She fanned 10 in the first win over Lynchburg.  Brown, who also picked up two saves during the week, has struck out 149 batters and owns a 0.86 earned run average, well ahead of the VWC record.

Softball Pitcher Honor Roll

Lindsay Lam, Bridgewater, Senior
Lam tossed 10.2 innings over the course of three appearances, and did not allowing a run to cross. Lam opened the week with a two-out save against York College. On Wednesday at Lynchburg, Lam allowed two hits in six innings while striking out nine to earn the victory. Finally, Lam turned in a one-hitter in four innings of work in Sunday’s 14-0 victory over Emory & Henry. On the week, Lam fanned 15 batters and allowed a meager four hits while also surrendering just one walk. Opposing batters hit a cool .114 against Lam.

Lisa Lee, Eastern Mennonite, Sophomore
Lee pitched in two games this week and allowed only one earned run in each outing. Against Roanoke, the sophomore was locked in a classic pitchers’ duel, but suffered the 2-1 loss as one of the Maroons’ runs scored on an error. Lee also struck out four in three innings against Emory & Henry, picking up the win.  She had a 1.56 ERA in 9.0 innings.

Shelby Bowser, Guilford, Sophomore
Bowser went 1-1 in two appearances with four strikeouts and a 0.60 ERA in 11.2 innings… held opponents to a .175 batting average on the week… twirled her first college shutout, a complete-game five-hitter, in Guilford’s 2-0 win over Meredith... did not walk a batter in the win, which snapped Guilford’s three-game losing streak… suffered a hard-luck loss at Randolph-Macon with 4.2 innings of two-hit, one-run relief in the second game of an ODAC doubleheader… had two strikeouts and one walk in the game.

Katie Bruce, Lynchburg, Junior
Bruce went 2-1 with a save in four appearances last week.  She picked up wins against Bridgewater and Randolph-Macon, giving up only two runs and 11 hits in 14 innings.  She picked up the save in the nightcap against the Yellow Jackets.  Her week ended with a hard luck 2-1 loss to Virginia Wesleyan.  She fanned eight Marlins and allowed five hits in six innings against VWC.

Emily Ambrous, Randolph, Freshman
Ambrous continues to be Randolph’s workhorse in the circle, going 17 innings in the 2-2 week of play. The first-year finished 2-1 on the rubber including two wins against MBC. She threw seven shutout innings allowing only two hits over two games against MBC. Ambrous struck out 10 batters, including five in the 5-2 win against the Fighting Squirrels.

Heather Lewis, Randolph-Macon, Freshman
With the bases loaded and no outs for Guilford in the top of the sixth, Lewis came on to pitch for Randolph-Macon. Lewis then struck out two and fielded a comebacker to seal the Jackets’ 4-3 victory. Heather then turned around and threw all seven innings of game two on the way to an 8-7 win and a doubleheader sweep of the Quakers.

Abigail Rexrode, Roanoke, Sophomore
Rexrode went 2-0 with nine strikeouts and no runs allowed last week.  She pitched a complete game shutout against Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday, fanning six and surrendering just three hits.
