Four Named All-Americans by the IWLCA

FOREST, Va. --- The second set of collegiate women's lacrosse All-America awards of the postseason was announced on Monday afternoon with four ODAC stars among the 57 standouts honored by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). For the second time this season, Washington and Lee University recent graduates Landon Shelley and Catherine Arrix earned high honors. The pair were joined by fellow Generals teammate Allie Schwab and Shenandoah University playmaker Alyson Bittinger.

Shelley and Arrix switched positions compared to their assigments by USA Lacrosse Magazine in May. Shelley was tabbed to the 19-woman first team, while Arrix was one of 19 individuals on the second team along with Schwab. Bittinger, the first All-American in SU program history, earned a spot on the 19-member third team.

Shelley, Arrix, Schwab, and Bittinger from a strong corps of ODAC athletes that picked up All-Chesapeak Region honors by the IWLCA last month.

This is the second career All-America laurel for Arrix. She started and played in 14 contests this season. Arrix tied for the team lead with 17 caused turnovers and also grabbed 19 ground balls. The Generals' defense allowed just 5.53 goals per game, which led the conference by over four goals per game and is the sixth-best average in Division III. Earlier this year, she was selected as the ODAC's Defensive Player of the Year and made the All-ODAC First Team.

Shelley, the ODAC Offensive Player of the Year and a first team all-conference honoree, led the league and finished seventh in the nation with 50 assists. The 50 assists are also the second-most in a single-season in program history. Shelley set the single-season assists record with 53 in 2019. She also had 17 goals this year towards 67 points. The 67 points are tied for the 10th-most in a single-season in W&L history.
 
Earlier this year, Shelley broke the program's career assists mark and finished her four years with 141 in 61 contests. She also broke the W&L single-game assists record with seven against Virginia Wesleyan on April 17. Shelley ends her career with 59 goals and the 141 assists towards 200 points, becoming just the fifth player in program history to reach the 200-point plateau. This is Shelley's second All-America citation.

Schwab led the Blue and White with 69 points on 35 goals and 34 assists. The 69 points are the seventh-most in a single-season in program history, while the 34 assists are tied for the seventh-most in a single-season in team history. The 34 assists also were second in the league this year. Schwab tallied two game-winning goals, 17 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers this season. She notched seven games with at least five points, including a career-best eight against Christopher Newport. Schwab was named First Team All-ODAC earlier this season.

Bittinger led the Hornets this season with 64 goals and five assists for 69 points. She was named as the IWLCA National Player of the Week one time and earned ODAC Player of the Week accolades on April 25 after scoring 10 goals in a 22-12 regular season finale victory over Lynchburg. She finished her 57-game career No. 2 all-time in scoring at SU with 205 goals and 23 assists for 228 points and finds herself in the top 10 in goals, points, and draw controls.
