Hoath Sisters, Olsen, W&L's Van Devender Take Home Awards

SALEM, Va. --- Lynchburg College earned three of the four major awards in the annual voting of the league's coaches for the All-ODAC Women's Soccer Teams.  Hornet midfielder Ashley Hoath was named the ODAC Player of the Year while younger sister, Beverly Hoath, was tabbed as the ODAC Rookie of the Year.  Head coach Dr. Todd Olsen received the ODAC Coach of the Year award, and Washington and Lee University striker, Anne Van Devender, garnered the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete award in a vote of the league's sports information directors.

Ashley Hoath saved her best performance for the most critical occasion.  Down 2-0 in the ODAC championship game last Saturday, the junior Alexandria-native netted three second half free kicks, one on a penalty kick.  The effort marked her third hat-trick and fifth multi-goal game of the season.  She finished the year fifth in the league in points with 39 for a 1.89 per game average.  She notched 18 goals to go with three assists.

Beverly Hoath helped lock down the right side of the Lynchburg defense following the graduation of former standout, Lauren Askey.  Aside from contributing solid defense to a unit that allowed only nine goals all season, Hoath served as the squad's long-range free kick specialist, routinely placing dangerous crosses into the opponent's goal area.  She finished the season with six assists.

Coach Olsen enjoys his fourth ODAC top coaching honor.  This season, his Hornets have yet to lose a game in 22 outings, posting a 19-0-3 overall record to go with a 9-0-2 league mark.  The Hornets' season continues this week as they prepare to host first and second round contests in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.  Lynchburg opens with Maryville University (Tenn.) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.  St. Mary's College (Md.) and Emory University (Ga.) also travel to Lynchburg for NCAA opening round action.

Van Devender is a star in and out of the classroom.  The former ODAC Player of the Year boasts a 3.841 grade point average while majoring in computer science with a minor in women's studies.  She is a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree.  On the field, Van Devender earned her third All-ODAC First Team selection.  She is second all-time at Washington and Lee in goals scored (64), assists (33) and total points (161).  This season, she sits fourth in the league in points (2.82/game) on 17 goals and 11 assists.
