LC's Olsen and Maxwell, SU's Burris Garner Individual Awards

FOREST, Va. --- Lynchburg College earned three of the four special individual honors as part of the All-ODAC Women's Soccer Awards.  Forward Angela Bosco was named the ODAC Player of the Year, while head coach Dr. Todd Olsen was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year.  Defender Emily Maxwell received ODAC Rookie of the Year laurels.  Shenandoah University midfielder Danielle Burris was selected the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Scholar-Athlete.

Bosco, a senior from Long Island, N.Y., put together a stellar final season as she currently leads the ODAC in points (67), goals scored (27) and assists (13).  She notched at least one point in 16-of-21 games played this season, registering three or more points in 11 contests.  In an ODAC Tournament first round win over Eastern Mennonite University, she became the first Lynchburg player to score six goals in one game, coming up just one tally shy of tying the ODAC record set by Alex Hutton from Guilford College in 2002.  Bosco has found other ways to put herself in the conference record books.  She currently ranks second all-time in points (206) and goals scored (82) behind teammate Dessi Dupuy (229 and 101).  Bosco is third all-time in assists with 42.

Olsen, in his 21st season guiding the Lynchburg women's soccer program, enjoys his second straight and ninth overall ODAC top coaching honor.  His Hornets are currently the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as they prepare to make their eighth consecutive and 15th overall appearance on the national stage.  Lynchburg is one of only four squads in the NCAA Tournament bracket to own an undefeated record, entering first round competition with a 22-0 mark.  This is the sixth time an Olsen-coached team has racked up at least 20 wins, including the past three seasons.  LC won its ODAC-best 13 overall and fifth straight conference title to punch its ticket to the national tournament.  Olsen's career records currently stand at 359-82-41 (.787) overall and 181-25-15 (.853) in ODAC play.

Maxwell, a freshman from Quanitco, Va., stepped right in to start all 20 games she played, spearheading the Hornets' backline.  A strong one-on-one defender, Maxwell has helped LC surrender just two goals this season, the last coming in a 5-1 win over Bridgewater College on September 13.  Since then, the Hornets have registered 17 straight shutouts towards 20 overall.  Maxwell has gotten forward to get in on the scoring, notching one goal and three assists.  Her first collegiate goal came in a victory over Randolph College to kickoff October.

Burris, a junior from Cooksville, Md., adds the scholar-athlete award to an All-ODAC Third Team selection this season.  In the classroom, Burris boasts a 3.98 grade point average as Kinesiology and Pre-Physical Therapy major.  A 2014 Capital One Academic All-District V First Team honoree, Burris is active in her community, donating her time to Habitat for Humanity, Hungry Hearts and several avenues at local elementary schools.  She's a member of the health and life sciences club, as well as SU's chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta academic honor society.  On the pitch, Burris led Shenandoah in points (23) and goals scored (9), ranking eighth and seventh in the ODAC, respectively.  Three times she scored multiple goals in a game, including a hat-trick in a win over Sweet Briar College.  She had a season-high seven points in that contest.
