Tabb Nabs Double, Ishida and Yeatman Top Coach, Rookie
SALEM, Va. --- Washington and Lee University
added four major awards and nine All-ODAC First Team selections to
its 19th ODAC women's tennis championship in the annual
voting of the league's head coaches. Senior Katie Tabb not
only won the ODAC Player of the Year award for the second straight
season, but she was also named the ODAC/Farm Bureau
Scholar-Athlete.
Head coach Eric Ishida picked up his second ODAC Coach of the Year
award in as many seasons, and Generals' freshman Ellen Yeatman
garnered ODAC Rookie of the Year honors. Guilford College was
bestowed the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Tabb, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, holds down the ranks at No. 1
singles for the Generals while also teaming with Lauren Caire at
No. 1 doubles. The duo was named First Team All-ODAC.
Tabb went 8-5 overall this year and 2-0 in ODAC regular season
competition, all for the top flight. She went a perfect 3-0
in the ODAC Tournament, picking up a win at #1 singles and two
victories at #1 doubles. Outside of conference action, she
faced several of the nation's toughest players, posting wins over
#1 players from several ranked teams including Mary Washington,
Carnegie Mellon, DePauw and Williams.
Off the court, Tabb boasts a 3.487 grade point average while
majoring in business administration and art history. She is a
four-time member of the Washington and Lee Dean's list and has been
an honoree on the All-ODAC Academic Team. She currently likes
a blog for the NCAA that can be viewed from www.ncaa.com or from Washington and
Lee's website at www.wlu.edu.
Yeatman, from Little Rock, Arkansas, went 10-4 on the season,
mostly from the No. 2 singles position. She posted a 4-0
record in ODAC matches. Yeatman won both of her matches from
the top flight slot, recorded a 7-3 mark at No. 2 singles, and came
through with a 1-1 record at No. 3 singles. In doubles
action, she went a combined 11-3, mostly from the No. 2 and No. 3
flights.
Ishida took over as the full-time mentor following his interim role
in 2007-08 in which he garnered his first ODAC Coach of the
Year. His Generals posted a 10-0 record against ODAC
opponents in the regular season before adding three more victories
on the way to the conference title. Through those 13 matches,
the Generals won each match contested in both the singles and
doubles ranks.
