Generals Continue Play at ITA Grass Court Invitational

NEWPORT, R.I. --- The No. 15 Washington and Lee women's tennis team continued play in the 2018 Hall of Fame International Tennis Association (ITA) Grass Court Invitational on Saturday.

Sophomore Valerie Marshall (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) posted the lone win on the day for the Generals in singles play in the Virginia Wade Flight as she defeated No. 9 Carnegie Mellon's Courtney Ollis, 7-5, 6-4. First-years Georgia Wright (Austin, Texas, Regents School of Austin) and Taylor Garcia (Mandeville, La./Mount Carmel Academy) dropped their singles matches on Saturday to Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico, 6-3, 6-0, and Daniela Lopez, 6-1, 6-3, respectively, of No. 1 Emory in the Helena Sukova Flight.

Both first-years competed as a doubles team in the Bueno/Court Flight for the second day in a row but lost a close 8-5 decision to the team of Melissa Strome and Vinaya Rao of No. 9 Carnegie Mellon.

The trio of Generals will wrap up play in the ITA Grass Court Invitational on Sunday as matches will get under way at 10:00 am.
