CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The 18th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team saw its season come to an end in a 5-0 defeat to No. 2 Wesleyan (Conn.) in the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals on Monday morning.
The Generals complete their season with an overall record of 16-3, while the Cardinals improve to 9-0 overall with the win.
First-years Kaitlyn Chalker (Kennesaw, Ga. / Rivers Academy) and Nell Covington (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) came close to earning W&L a point in No. 3 doubles, but they fell, 8-7 (7-3). In singles, sophomore Becket Waters (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) was swept, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 by Caitlin Goldberg, before first-year Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Serim Jin at No. 4.
The Generals' .842 winning percentage for the 2020-21 season is the third highest in a season in the last 12 years, while their appearance in the national quarterfinals marked the program's first since the 2010-11 campaign.
Junior Taylor Garcia (Mandeville, La. / Mount Carmel Academy) was recently selected to the NCAA Division III Singles Championship, and she will compete in the Round of 32 on Friday at 9:00 am at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga. Her opponent is yet to be announced.
