W&L Moves on to NCAA Volleyball Regional Finals

Generals Trump NYU, One Step Away from Salem

SALEM, Va. --- Washington & Lee University, seeded fifth going into the NCAA Division III regional quarterfinals, picked up its second upset in as many days in Hoboken, N.J., knocking off top-seeded New York University 3-2 on Friday afternoon.  The Generals move on to face the winner of host Stevens Institute of Technology (32-5) and SUNY Cortland (29-12) in the Saturday's New York Region final.

The W&L triumph may come as a surprise to several within volleyball circles as NYU was expected to make a repeat appearance in Salem, Virginia, as one of the final eight teams vying for the national crown.  The Generals' victory not only derailed those plans but put the blue and white within one victory of its first NCAA final tournament appearance.

Saturday's regional championship will be webcast via Stevens Tech's "Duckcast."  To view the game, which begins at 7:00 p.m., go to the Duckast website at www.duckcast.com/index.php. There will be several links active for the match as the scheduled start time nears.
