R-MC's Rogers and Sears, W&L's Lausberg also Honored
FOREST, Va. --- Randolph-Macon College senior
outside hitter Mallory Carter was named the ODAC Volleyball Player
of the Year as the Yellow Jackets took home three major honors as
part of the 2012 All-ODAC Volleyball Awards. R-MC mentor Bill
Rogers was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year, while fellow Jacket,
senior outside hitter Jessica Sears, garnered the ODAC/Farm Bureau
Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award for the second straight year.
Washington and Lee University freshman Anna Lausberg earned ODAC
Rookie of the Year accolades.
Carter, from Moseley, Va., adds the 2012 top player honor to
All-ODAC First Team laurels in each of the past two seasons.
Carter has racked up 352 kills in 97 games played for a 3.62 per
game average, which ranks her fourth in the ODAC. She is also
10th in the league with a .253 attack percentage, which is first
among outside hitters (top nine spots belong to middle
hitters/blockers). Carter is also adept at the serve and
defensively as she is third in the ODAC with 50 aces (0.52 per
game) and has picked up 236 digs (2.43 per game). She
recorded double-digit kills in 19-of-29 matches played, including a
season-best 25 winners against Elmhurst (9/22). Earlier this
season, Carter became the all-time kills leader in Randolph-Macon
history, surpassing the 1,243 kills Maggie McDearmon posted from
2003-06. Carter currently has 1,392 kills following the ODAC
Tournament, which is ninth in ODAC history.
Rogers is in his 11th season guiding the Yellow Jackets, having
won better than 70-percent of his matches thru the ODAC Tournament
(252-103 for .710 winning percentage). This is the second
time he has won the ODAC's top coaching honor, having also taken
home the award in 2009. Rogers has led R-MC to three
conference titles (2009-11) and the program's first undefeated
record in league play in 2012 (11-0). Randolph-Macon has made
appearances in each of the past three NCAA Division III
Tournaments, and it is currently awaiting the selection show
(Monday at 11am ET) for a possible chance at an entry in this
season's national event.
Sears, from Newport News, Va., stars on the court and in the
classroom for Randolph-Macon. She boasts a 3.86 cumulative
grade point average as a Physics and Math double-major. She
is a three-time member of the All-ODAC Academic Team, as well as a
founding member of both the Randolph-Macon Math Club and Physics
Club. In addition to last year's scholar-athlete award, Sears
was named the 2009 ODAC Rookie of the Year, an All-ODAC First Team
performer in 2010, and has been a three-time choice to the All-ODAC
Second Team (2009, 2011-12). This season, she has collected
133 kills, 259 digs and 29 service aces in 87 games played.
Lausberg, from Ocoee, Fla., stepped right in to become an integral
part of Washington and Lee's conference championship squad.
In 104 games played, she is sixth in the conference with 341 kills
and a 3.28 kills per game average. She has picked up 245 digs
(2.36 per game) and registered 12 service aces. Lausberg
saved her best performance for the ODAC title game as she knocked
21 kills on a .273 attack percentage. She also had 14 digs
and a pair of aces.
