Randolph-Macon's Quinn Leads ODAC Contingent of AVCA Award Winners

LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Randolph-Macon setter Erin Quinn became the second straight Yellow Jacket to earn All-America Third Team honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Tuesday, leading a list of four ODAC standouts for the AVCA's top awards. R-MC teammate Mariah Clark, Lynchburg outside hitter Jennifer Garrett, and Washington and Lee middle Mackenzie Shand garnered Honorable Mention All-America laurels.

The AVCA All-America awards follow the organization's all-region lauding, of which the ODAC was well-represented. Clark, Garrett, Quinn, and Shand all earned All-South Region First Team recognition. Bridgewater outside hitter Abby Mills, Randolph-Macon libero Samantha Sallade, and Washington and Lee outside hitter Meg Guignon picked up honorable mention all-region accolades. R-MC mentor Bill Rogers added South Region Coach of the Year honors to his ODAC Coach of the Year award.

Quinn, a junior from Morrisville, N.C., pairs All-America recognition with ODAC Player of the Year and All-ODAC First Team distinctions. She led the league in overall assists (1,223) and assists per set (10.54), helping R-MC to a conference-high 12.92 kills per set. The Yellow Jackets participation in two matches in the NCAA Division III Tournament moved them in first in total kills with 1,499. Quinn accounted for 87-percent of the Yellow Jackets' assists (1,407). She averaged 10.0 or more assists per set in 20 separate matches, dishing out 40 or more assists in 13 matches.  She eclipsed the 50-assist mark six different times with two occasions of 55 helpers and a season-best 56 dimes in a 3-2 non-conference victory over John Carroll University. Quinn also contributed to the attack with 60 kills and a .229 attack percentage. Defensively, she ends the year ranked 10th in the ODAC with 347 digs, good enough for a 2.99 per set average. She also registered 25 blocks on the season.

Clark, a sophomore from Stuarts Draft, Va., is making her first appearance on AVCA award teams after earning All-ODAC First Team honors. She finished second in the ODAC with 390 kills and third with a 3.42 per set average. Her 65 total blocks stand ninth in the league, while her 62 assisted blocks are sixth.

Garrett, a senior from Forest, Va., is the first player from Lynchburg to earn AVCA All-America accolades. The All-ODAC First Team selection led the conference with 444 kills and a 4.15 per set average. Those were both career-best marks, along with her ODAC seventh-best .274 attack percentage and 338 digs. Garrett capped her career ranked third all-time at LC in kills (1,137), kills per set (2.89), and total attacks (3,057).

Shand, a senior from Saline, Mich., received honorable mention All-America recognition for the third straight season, becoming the second player in Generals history (joining Christine Gladysz '06) to earn three All-America honors. A three-time All-ODAC First Team honoree, Shand led the ODAC in blocks (151), blocks per set (1.28) and attack percentage (.378). Those numbers ranked fifth, eighth, and 14th in NCAA Division III, respectively.  Her 448 career blocks are a W&L record and sit seventh in ODAC history.
