FOREST, Va. --- ODAC women's volleyball embarks on its first-ever spring season over the next two months as teams return to league courts for the first time since November 2019. Twelve conference schools will compete for a chance to lift the ODAC trophy in May.
In the sections below, we recap the last time we saw ODAC volleyball compete in 2019 and take a look at what to expect entering the new season. Be sure to check out the capsules at the bottom of this page for a more targeted view at each squad entering the spring campaign.
2019 ODAC TOURNAMENT | BRACKET
- Virginia Wesleyan, the second seed in the 2019 tournament, appeared in just its second ODAC volleyball championship match in program history and earned its first title with a 3-1 over host and #1 seed Randolph-Macon
- The Marlins defeated #7 Roanoke, 3-0, in the quarterfinals and #3 Guilford, 3-0, in the semifinals punch their tickets to the finals, joining their conference title match appearance in 2015
- The Yellow Jackets took down #8 Randolph College, 3-0, in the quarterfinals and #5 Washington and Lee University, 3-1, in the semifinals to continue its run at a seventh ODAC crown; this marked R-MC's 11th overall and fifth consecutive berth to the ODAC title match; that run includes titles in 2015, 2016, and 2017
- in the championship match, VWU erased an early lead in the first set powered an an 11-2 run to post a 25-17 win
- Randolph-Macon returned the favor in the second, enjoying a 13-5 early lead on the way to a 25-15 win
- The first two sets went to the team on the right side of the court, and that trend continued in third with Virginia Wesleyan collecting a second 25-17 set victory
- the final frame featured several ties at all stages of the set and went to extra points; former outside Elizabeth Britton registered the deciding point with a kill for a 29-27 fourth-set win and a 3-1 match triumph for VWU
- The match victory improved VWU to 28-7, setting a new program-record for wins in a season
2019 NCAA TOURNAMENT | NCAA BRACKET
- Virginia Wesleyan, the ODAC's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament, was joined by Randolph-Macon as an at-large selection to the 64-team field
- Both ODAC squads went traveled to Christopher Newport University for regional round play
- Randolph-Macon squared off with Marymount University (Va.) in the first round and came up on the wrong end of a 3-1 result; R-MC finished the season at 25-9, 12th straight campaign with at least 20 wins dating back to 2008
- Virginia Wesleyan went the distance with two-time national champion (2004, 06) Juniata College in the first round; The Marlins won the first and third sets for a 2-1 lead, but the Eagles took the final two frames for a 3-2 win
- Johns Hopkins University defeated Emory University, 3-0, for the national title

THE SCHEDULE AND TOURNAMENT
- The ODAC volleyball season will feature an 11-match round-robin schedule; teams will compete in a combination of single and multi-match setups; each team will have the opportunity to host one conference-based mutli-match (tri- or quad-match); Hollins University will not be competing this season
- As is consistent with other ODAC sports, non-conference opportunities can be scheduled at each school's discretion.
- The ODAC Volleyball Tournament will feature four teams with seeding determined by results from conference matches; both semifinal matches and the championship match will be hosted by the #1 seed on Saturday, May 1
