2010 Volleyball Players of the Week

  • KALA GUY, Virginia Wesleyan College, Sophomore, Outside Hitter

    Guy, a sophomore from Fishersville, Va., helped lead VWC to a 5-0 week, including a five-set win over Roanoke College and an a sweep against a strong field of competition at the St. Mary’s College Seahawk Invitational. Guy produced 79 kills in the five matches, including a season-high 20 against Roanoke. She averaged 15.8 kills through the five matches and 43 attacks per match. Guy also recorded a season-high 20 digs against St. Mary’s. She helped the Marlins to their second victory of the season over three-time defending Capital Athletic Conference champion Salisbury, a first for the VWC program. Guy now has 322 kills this season, the fourth highest total in VWC history.
  • BRITTANY FREEMAN, Guilford College, Sophomore, Outside Hitter

    Freeman averaged a team-high 2.91 kills per set in the Quakers’ 3-0 week that included a pair of ODAC wins… also contributed 3.91 digs per set, three blocks and seven service aces… hit .500 with 10 kills and 12 digs, all team highs, to lead the Quakers past Sweet Briar on the road, 3-0… had nine kills and 16 digs in the Quakers’ 3-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan… added four service aces and three blocks in Guilford’s first win over the Marlins since 2003… had 13 kills on .257 hitting with 15 digs and an ace in Guilford’s win over Averett… the effort marked her team-leading 11th double-double of the season and helped the Quakers match their highest win total since 1997.

    Boles, a freshman from Houston, Texas, earns her second straight weekly honor and second of the season. Boles led the Generals to a 3-0 week, including a 3-0 win over Roanoke … averaged 13.7 kills and 7 digs, while hitting .384 for the week … posted 19 kills (.395) and 11 digs in the sweep of the Maroons … helped W&L avenge an early-season loss to Averett with 14 kills (.423), 7 digs and 2 blocks against the Cougars.
  • M.A. BOLES, Washington and Lee, Freshman, Outside Hitter

    Boles, a freshman from Houston, Texas, helped lead W&L to a 3-2 record in five matches last week that included a pair of contests against No. 6 Christopher Newport and No. 10 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She averaged 11 kills, 2.2 service aces and 8.6 digs per match. She opened the week with 11 kills (.381) and five service aces in a 3-0 victory over Sweet Briar, and closed out the week by recording 14 kills, 13 digs, three blocks and three service aces in a 3-2 loss to No. 10 Wis.-Oshkosh. Boles tallied 15 kills and four digs in a 3-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan. For the week, she registered 55 kills, 43 digs, 11 aces and nine total blocks (3 solo, 6 asst.), accounting for 70 points won.
  • MAGGIE WAGNER, Roanoke College, Senior, Outside Hitter

    Wagner, a senior from Roanoke, Va., led the Maroons to a 4-0 week that included ODAC victories over Emory & Henry College and Lynchburg College. Wagner notched 52 kills for the week in 14 games played (3.71 kills/g), reaching double figures in each contest. She added 34 digs (2.43 digs/g) and seven assists in the four wins. She tallied 13 kills against both E&H and Southern Virginia, added 14 more winners against Hollins, and finished with 12 kills against Lynchburg. For the season, Wagner is currently second in the ODAC in kills (179) and kills per game (3.31) and is fourth in total attack attempts (509).
  • LOUISE BROOKS, Washington and Lee, Senior, Middle Blocker

    Brooks, a senior from Baltimore, Md., helped Washington and Lee to a 4-0 week that included a 3-2 triumph over previously undefeated Randolph-Macon College, and tournament victories over Thiel College, Marietta College and John Carroll University. Brooks was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts as the Generals' middle blocker. Brooks started the week with seven kills, six total blocks and six digs against R-MC, and followed that up with 24 kills against just three errors (.412 attack pct.) to go with eight blocks, two aces and 11 digs in tournament action. For the season, Brooks currently ranks third in the ODAC with 29 block assists.

    Guy, a sophomore from Fishersville, Va., led the Marlins to a 3-0 week with victories at Eastern Mennonite University, at the University of Mary Washington and at home against Emory & Henry College. After recording a career-high five aces in a win at UMW, Guy came back to record six in the win over Emory & Henry. She entered the week with just six aces for the season. Guy added 29 kills and 28 digs to her weekly totals, as well as five total blocks. She currently leads the Marlins in kills, aces and digs.
  • JESSICA SEARS, Randolph-Macon College, Sophomore, Outside Hitter

    Sears, a sophomore from Newport News, Va., earned her second straight ODAC weekly award to begin the season. Sears helped R-MC to a 5-0 week to improve to 8-0 in the early campaign. She totaled 56 kills and 64 digs in the five R-MC wins. At the Greensboro Invitational, Sears had 15 kills and 11 digs against Piedmont, nine kills and 11 stops against Peace, 15 kills and 18 digs against the host Pride and closed out the tourney with a 16-kill 12-dig performance against Guilford. For the week, she hit at a .310 clip, making just 12 errors in 142 chances. She also recorded four assists and eight total blocks.
  • JESSICA SEARS, Randolph-Macon College, Sophomore, Outside Hitter

    Sears, a sophomore from Newport News, Va., helped R-MC to a 3-0 week, registering 30 kills (at a 3.33 per game average) while hitting at a .460 clip. She made only one attack error in 63 attempts. Defensively, Sears also had 38 digs and averaged 4.22 per game. Sears had double-digit kills against Marymount (12) and NC Wesleyan (10).
