Boles, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, was named MVP of the W&L Invitational as W&L posted a 4-0 weekend to move to 8-0 on the season. She totaled 61 kills (4.7/set) and hit .431 for the weekend. She added 29 digs (2.2/set) and six service aces (0.46/set) to her stat line. Boles notched 20 kills against just two errors and hit .514 in the championship match against Gettysburg (W, 3-0), while adding nine digs. She also posted 19 kills (.378) and 13 digs in a 3-0 win over SVU.
Volleyball Honor Roll
Katie Baker, Bridgewater, Senior, Middle Hitter
Baker was named to the All-Tournament team at the
Catholic tournament – her second all-tournament nod in two
tournaments this season. She played in three of the four matches
during the weekend and finished with a total of 38 kills and 10
blocks. She had her best performance against EMU when she finished
with 13 kills and hit for a .440 percentage.
Emma Gunn, Guilford, Senior, Middle Blocker
Gunn averaged a team-high 2.68 kills per set on .315
hitting in the Quakers’ 1-4 week… also led Guilford
with .53 blocks per set… averaged 3.00 points per
set… hit .458 with 11 kill, an ace and two blocks in a road
loss to Meredith… put away a match- and career-high 19 kills
on .576 hitting in the Quakers’ five-set win over
Greensboro… had nine kills and four blocks in a five-set
loss to Roanoke… led Guilford with 11 kills in a four-set
loss to Peace.
Mandi McDade, Hollins, Freshman, Middle
McDade led Hollins to three sweeps in less than 24 hours
over the weekend, helping HU to a 3-1 week. She collected 37 total
kills, including her first double-digit match with 15 in HU's
victory over Mary Baldwin on Saturday. McDade also tallied 40
digs and 12 aces over the four matches.
Rachel Huffman, Lynchburg, Junior, Middle Hitter
Huffman led the Hornet volleyball team to a 4-0
record last week, dropping just one game all week. She blasted a
team-high 32 kills for a .482 hitting percentage, and added 11
blocks and three service aces. Huffman's highmark came in a
3-0 win over Shenandoah as she collected 11 kills and five
blocks.
Shana Nelson, Randolph, Freshman, Middle Hitter
Nelson averaged over 10 kills per match on the week,
posting a week-best of 15 against NC Wesleyan. She also had six
total blocks in that match. Nelson was very efficient as well, as
she posted a hitting percentage of .403 during the WildCats 2-2
week. She was responsible for 51 points in all, which was the best
among Randolph players. With a 5-2 record, Randolph is off to is
its best start since the 1994 season, when the ‘Cats went 7-2
to open the campaign.
Mallory Carter, Randolph-Macon, Junior, Outside Hitter
Carter was named to the Juniata ASICS All-Tournament Team
over the weekend. Carter had 31 kills for the tournament and
29 digs on the defensive side. Carter had 11 kills and nine
digs versus Franklin & Marshall and 13 kills and 15 digs in a
five game loss to Transylvania.
