2011 Volleyball Players of the Week

  • Becca Loftis, Lynchburg, Junior, Outside Hitter

    Loftis, a junior from Coventry, Conn., helped the Hornets to a 5-0 week to close the regular season heading into the ODAC Tournament. Loftis collected 37 kills and hit .400 for the week covering 15 games played. Her lowest attack percentage in any one match was .294 as she committed just seven errors in 75 opportunities. She also had a strong week defensively as she collected 17 total blocks, good for 1.13 per game. Her best outing came against Randolph College when she registered 11 kills to go with five blocks in a 3-0 win.
  • Mallory Carter, Randolph-Macon, Junior, Outside Hitter

    Carter, a junior from Moseley, Va., helped Randolph-Macon to a 2-1 week in which their only loss came at the hands of Eastern University, which is ranked #5 in the country. Carter collected 32 kills for the week including a pair of double-digit kill contests. She knocked out eight winners with four aces, nine digs and a block in a key ODAC win over Lynchburg. She followed that with 11 kills and eight digs against Eastern. Carter capped her week with 13 kills and 14 digs to go with two aces and a pair of blocks. R-MC is now idle through the remainder of the regular season. Carter currently leads the ODAC with 360 kills, which is third most in Randolph-Macon volleyball history.
  • M.A. Boles, Washington and Lee, Sophomore, Outside Hitter

    Boles, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, led the Generals to three wins in three days as W&L wrapped up ODAC play with a perfect 10-0 conference record (25-2 overall). The Generals posted wins over Randolph-Macon, which was previously undefeated in conference play, Randolph and Lynchburg. Boles averaged 15.7 kills, and 11.3 digs per match (3.9 k/set, 2.8 d/set) last week. She posted 20 kills and 14 digs in a 3-1 win over Randolph-Macon on Thursday. She followed that with 12 kills, nine digs and a pair of service aces in a 3-0 win over Randolph on Friday. Boles capped her week with 15 kills, 11 digs and a pair of aces in a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Lynchburg on Saturday. Boles is currently second in the ODAC with 321 kills and 3.73 kills per match.

    Boles, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, led the Generals to a 5-0 week, including a 4-0 record in the Maroon Classic in which she was named Most Valuable Player. Boles totaled 51 kills (3.6/set), 43 digs (3.1/set) and added three service aces and six total blocks. She registered 11 kills, while adding 10 digs, in a 3-0 win over ODAC foe Emory & Henry. Boles pounded out 12 kills while pick up nine digs and two blocks in a 3-1 win over Averett. She followed that up with 18 kills and a .405 hitting percentage with 16 digs in a 3-1 win over Methodist and 10 kills, eight digs and three blocks in a 3-0 win over Southern Virginia. For the season, Boles is second in the ODAC with 274 total kills and 3.70 kills per game. Her .295 hitting percentage is fourth.
  • LINDSEY DEE, Washington and Lee, Senior, Middle Hitter

    Dee, a senior from Tallahassee, Fla., was effective on both offense and defense in helping Washington and Lee to a 3-0 week that included a pair of wins over conference opponents. Dee collected 23 kills and hit .500 for the week, but also registered 15 total blocks in the three matches, including eight solo stoppers. The Generals' middle went for five kills and one block in a 3-0 win over Eastern Mennonite. She continued with four kills and eight blocks (five solo) in a 3-0 victory at Virginia Wesleyan. The trip to VWC including a match against Mary Washington, in which Dee smashed 14 kills to go with six blocks and an ace in a 3-0 triumph. Dee currently leads the ODAC with 56 total blocks and 24 solos. She is also third in the league in hitting at a .306 clip.
  • MALLORY CARTER, Randolph-Macon, Junior, Outside Hitter

    Carter, a junior from Moseley, Va., wins her second straight and third overall ODAC weekly honor of the 2011 season. Carter led Randolph-Macon to a 4-1 week including an ODAC win at Randolph and a 3-1 showing at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta where she was named to the All-Tournament Team. Carter had 80 kills on the week, making just 20 errors on 199 attempts for a .302 hitting clip for the week. She had 25 kills and 11 digs against Randolph and followed that up with a 26-kill, 20-dig performance in a five game win over Berry. After losing to host and #4 Emory, Carter helped R-MC rebound with a win over Virginia Wesleyan with 12 kills and four digs. She closed out the tournament with 13 kills and eight digs against Martin Methodist. For the week, Carter averaged 4.71 kills per game and 3.29 digs per contest.

    Carter, a junior from Moseley, Va., picks up her second weekly award of the 2011 season. Carter helped R-MC to a 4-0 week, with three of those wins being against ODAC foes and one victory against previously unbeaten Mary Washington. Carter recorded at least 11 kills in each of the four matches and had double digits in three of the four wins as well. She opened the week with 19 kills and 23 digs over Mary Washington, before helping R-MC rally to a 3-1 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday with 18 kills and 18 digs. This weekend she had 17 kills and eight digs against Emory and Henry and closed out the week with 11 kills and 12 digs in a win over Guilford. She finished the week with 65 kills and 61 digs as well as eight aces and four block assists.

    Boles, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, was named MVP of the W&L Invitational as W&L posted a 4-0 weekend to move to 8-0 on the season. She totaled 61 kills (4.7/set) and hit .431 for the weekend. She added 29 digs (2.2/set) and six service aces (0.46/set) to her stat line. Boles notched 20 kills against just two errors and hit .514 in the championship match against Gettysburg (W, 3-0), while adding nine digs. She also posted 19 kills (.378) and 13 digs in a 3-0 win over SVU.

    Carter, a junior from Moseley, Va., helped Randolph-Macon to a 4-0 week at the Seahawk Invitational hosted by St. Mary's College (Md.). The junior hit at a .358 clip after converting on 54-of-120 attack attempts while making just 11 errors. She also added seven aces and 40 digs. She posted double-doubles against Marymount with 11 kills and 11 digs and NC Wesleyan 13 kills and 11 digs. In a rematch of a first-round NCAA Division III Tournament match from 2010, Carter sent R-MC to a 3-1 win over Franklin & Marshall with 16 kills and nine stops on the defensive side. Against St. Mary's, she nailed 14 kills against just one error in 28 attempts (.464). As a team, Randolph-Macon surrendered just one game throughout the four matches.
