Guy, a senior from Fishersville, Va., helped lead VWC to a 4-1 week, including a 4-0 run through the Hollins Invitational. She began her week by setting a VWC program record with 27 kills in a tough loss at North Carolina Wesleyan College. But, she came back strong in the Hollins tourney to lead the Marlins with a total of 48 kills, including 20 against Gettysburg College. She also ranked second for the Marlins in total blocks (6) and digs (35). She has increased her kills total to 968, putting her on track to become only the fourth VWC volleyball player to surpass 1,000 kills in a career.
Volleyball Honor Roll
Sara Ritchie, East. Mennonite - (So,
OH - Harrisonburg, VA, 9)
Ritchie had a match-high in each of EMU's matches last week,
helping the women to a 1-1 split. She had a high of 21 kills
against McDaniel, along with 16 digs. She added three aces and a
pair of block assists. For the week, she averaged 3.88 kills,
swinging .282 from the outside.
Meredith Foscue, Guilford - (Jr, LB -
Asheboro, N.C., 7)
Foscue was forced to setter in the second game of Wednesday's
match with Ferrum and helped steady the Quakers to a 3-1 win. She
recorded a career-high 22 assists and served up a team-high three
aces in the match. Over the week, Foscue was named to the
Greensboro College Invitational All-Tournament team for her
play. She had four aces and 17 assists, both team highs, in a
3-1 loss to Greensboro. She paced the Quakers with five kills
on .455 hitting, 18 assists, two aces and 12 digs in a 3-0 loss to
Agnes Scott.
Aricquel Payne, Lynchburg - (So, OH -
Woodbridge, VA, 22)
Payne started all for matches for the volleyball team, collecting
44 kills, six service aces (.844 serving percentage), 52 digs, and
nine blocks. The Hornets went 3-2 in those matches. She had a
double-double in a 3-0 win over Roanoke at the start of the week as
she collected 11 kills and 11 digs to go with three blocks in LC's
ODAC-play opener.
Marli Dabareiner, Randolph-Macon - (Jr,
DS - Hardy, VA, 21)
Dabareiner helped R-MC to a 3-0 victory over Virginia Union in its
lone match of the week. The junior libero led a defense that that
topped VUU in three games. Dabareiner had 14 digs in just two
games.
Mackenzie Tyree, Roanoke - (Fr, S -
Daleville, VA, 4)
Tyre helped the Maroons to a 4-1 record over the past week
to improve to 5-4 overall. Roanoke swept the field in the
Greensboro Classic to win the tournament. Tyre was named the MVP of
the tournament as she tallied 62 digs in the four matches,
including 20 in a 3-1 win over William Peace and 22 in a 3-2
triumph over Greensboro.
Haley Smith, Shenandoah - (Jr, MB -
Winchester, Va., 4)
Smith helped Shenandoah to a 4-0 week with a solid effort in the
middle of the Hornets' offense and defense at the net. She
collected 27 kills and hit at a .268 clip. She also recorded
13 blocks, good for 1.08 per set. Eight of those blocks were
of the solo variety. Her top contest game in a 3-0 win over
Mary Baldwin where she notched nine kills and six blocks (four
solo). Smith also had six aces on the week.
Kelly McManus, Washington and Lee - (So,
DS - Osprey, Fla., 3)
In four matches this weekend, McManus tallied 52 digs and nine
service aces. She helped the Generals beat Marietta on Friday with
six service aces and 13 digs. The defensive specialist averaged
3.71 digs per set and .64 service aces per set. She was named to
the W&L Invitational All-Tournament team.
