Carter, a senior from Moseley, Va., helped Randolph-Macon to a 4-2 week with both its losses coming to nationally ranked teams --- No. 6 Emory and No. 12 Elmhurst. Carter earned a spot on the Emory Invitational All-Tournament Team after collecting 72 kills, 31 digs and five aces in four matches. Prior to the tournament, R-MC's week included a pair of 3-0 wins over Eastern Mennonite and Mary Washington, in which Carter notched 16 kills, five aces and 16 digs in addition to her totals at Emory. She racked up four matches with double-digits in kills including a career-high 22 in a 3-2 win over Maryville. She later eclipsed that mark with 25 kills in a 3-2 loss to #12 Elmhurst. She also had 12 and 10 digs in those matches, respectively. Carter, who averaged 4.0 kills/set this week, has 1,181 winners for her career and stands just six shy of moving past Katie King (1997-2000) for second-place all-time in R-MC history. Maggie McDearmon (2003-06) holds the school record with 1,243 kills.
Volleyball Honor Roll
Megann Grimes, Bridgewater (Va.) -
(So, MH - Midland, Va., 14)
Grimes notched 26 kills and a .365 attack percentage in a 1-2 week
for the Eagles. She put down 15 kills in a 3-0 win over
Roanoke with four blocks. She had eight blocks on the
week.
Kelsey Ruehling, Guilford - (Fr, OH -
Three Rivers, Calif., 17)
Ruehling elped the Quakers to a 1-1 week, including a 3-2 ODAC
victory at Randolph. She put away a team-high 14 kills and
added seven digs in the 3-2 win over the Wildcats. She had
eight kills in a 3-0 loss to N.C. Wesleyan.
Sierra Strathy, Lynchburg - (Fr, MH -
Powhatan, VA, 21)
Strathy led LC to a pair of 3-0 victories over Hollins and Mary
Baldwin. The freshman totaled 17 kills to go along with 10
digs and four total blocks. She had 10 kills against Hollins, and
followed that with seven more on a .700 attack percentage as she
did not commit an error in 10 total attacks against MBC.
Strathy ended the week with a .517 hitting percent in six sets.
Celine Rhodes, Randolph - (Fr, RS - Barhamsville,
VA, 5)
Rhodes posted her best week as a collegian, as the sophomore
averaged just under three kills per set for Randolph in two
five-set losses. Wednesday against Guilford, Rhodes chalked
up 17 kills, eight total blocks, including four solo, and a service
ace, posting almost five points per set in that match. Rhodes
followed that performance with a 12-kill match against Methodist on
Saturday. In addition to her attacking total, she added four aces,
three digs and a block. She averaged four points per set this week
and hit at a .273 percentage.
M.A. Boles, Washington and Lee - (Jr, OH
- Houston, Texas, 12)
Boles played in two of the teams three matches this week as the
Generals went 3-0 overall. She totaled 32 kills, averaging 4.00
kills per set. She had a hitting percentage of .338, recorded five
service aces, tallied 24 digs and had two total blocks. Against
Emory & Henry, she had 18 kills and 12 digs and had 14 kills
and 12 digs against Virginia Wesleyan.
