ODAC Cross Country Runners of the Week

FOREST, Va. --- Big performances continued with this weeks ODAC cross country report. League runners took part in pair of events over the weekend with the Bridgewater Invitational and the first larger-scale event, the NCAA South Region Preview, on the docket. Conference athletes won three titles and were the top collegiate/Division III finishers in all four races.

Earning this week's ODAC Runner of the Week awards are Lynchburg standouts Frank Csorba and Sarah James. Csorba has already earn acclaimed from the USTFCCCA after winning the NCAA South Region Preview, while James was the top D-III competitor in finishing fifth overall behind four Division I runners.

Below are entries for both winners from today's cross country release. Most weeks this fall, the following schedule will be used for awards reporting:

  • Sundays: football (thru 11/13/22)
  • Mondays: field hockey, soccer, swimming (when it begins), volleyball, wrestling (when it begins)
  • Tuesdays: cross country
  • Wednesday: golf

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Frank Csorba | Lynchburg | Sr.
Csorba, a senior from Boydton, Va., has already earned awards for his winning performance at the NCAA South Region Preview hosted by Christopher Newport University on Friday afternoon. Csorba earned M-F Athletic United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Runner of the Week honors after topping the 166-person field at Lee Hall Mansion. He stopped the watches at 24:16.7 after completing the eight-kilometer course 18.8 seconds faster than Tyler Lipps from William & Mary. Csorba's pace of 4:53.0 per mile helped him break Lynchburg's 8K record by 10.3 seconds over the previous mark set by teammate Max Sparks last season. Lynchburg, ranked 11th in the country, chimed in second overall in the team standings on Friday with 46 points, trailing only William & Mary by 11 points in the table.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Sarah James | Lynchburg | So.
James, a sophomore from Bristow, Va., leapt to the top of the ODAC six-kilometer top times chart this season with a stellar day at the NCAA South Region Preview hosted by Christopher Newport University. James finished fifth overall behind four runners from the College of William & Mary, leaving her as the top Division III competitor in the field. She finished the course at Lee Hall Mansion in 22:34.0, stopping the watches 20.1 seconds faster than teammate Molly Silva as the second-quickest Division III athlete in the 165-runner field. James now sits sixth on Lynchburg's all-time 6K list. The Hornets, ranked 27th in the country as a team, placed second overall with 54 points on the team chart trailing only William & Mary.
