Bridgewater and Washington and Lee Split ODAC Indoor Track Titles

BC's Celen and Galloway Earn Athlete of the Meet Honors

SALEM, Va. --- Bridgewater College may not have swept the ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championship titles for the third straight season, but the Eagles still tasted victory with the BC women capturing a fourth straight conference championship. Washington and Lee University pushed thru on the men's side, hoisting its seventh overall ODAC trophy and first since 1989.

Eagles' sprinters Amber Celen and Alex Galloway took home ODAC Athlete of the Meet honors, with BC mentor Brian Flynn securing women's coach of the year laurels and W&L's Brandon Uhl earning men's coach of the year accolades. Lynchburg College's David Moore and the Generals' Shep Sims shared ODAC Men's Rookie of the Year honors, while BC's Emily Valley earned the women's rookie award. Celen added a second honor to her championship as she was tabbed the women's ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete, while Eastern Mennonite University's Tyler Denlinger took home the honor on the men's side.

Last season, ODAC competitors snapped 12 championship or overall ODAC records. They did one better in Salem on Sunday as 13 new standards were established. Celen was personally resposible for seven of those records as she won four events on the day. She reset her own meet and overall marks in the 60-meter dash, bettering her NCAA Division III top-rated time to 7.58 seconds. She settled for only the meet record in the 200-meter dash, winning in 24.92-seconds. Celen and Valle finished 1-2 in the 60-meter hurdles as both eclipsed the overall and meet records. Celen's winning time of 8.95-seconds will serve as the standard-bearer. She went on to capture the long jump crown with an overall and meet record leap of 5.89 meters (19' 4.0").

Three other records went down on the women's side. Virginia Wesleyan's Marissa Coombs etched her name next to a pair of new standards. She won both the 800-meter and mile runs, posting record times of 2:16.77 and 5:02.01.

W&L's Dana Lee put together the remaining record-setting performance. She claimed the triple jump crown after bounding 11.36 meters (37' 3.25").

In the men's competition, Galloway competed four times on his way to athlete of the meet honors. He won both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, posting times of 22.66-seconds and 49.83-seconds, respectively. He and teammates Danny Breedlove, Ryan Mays, and Brandon Christian finished fifth in the 4x400-meter relay. Galloway notched his final point with an eighth-place showing in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.53 seconds.

Competitors added three new entries in the men's record books. W&L's Ian McDonald won the mile run for a second straight year, setting a meet record with a time of 4:18.64. EMU's Alec Thibodeaux put his name next to the 3000-meter run as he finished the race with a meet record time of 8:40.89.

The final mark went to Bridgewater's Darin Council in the triple jump. He won the event by nearly three-feet with a meet record mark of 14.82 meters (48' 7.5").
