Lynchburg, Washington and Lee Capture ODAC Indoor Track Titles

SALEM, Va. --- Six records fell and eight competitors repeated as event champions following a banner day of competition at the 2019 ODAC Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Roanoke College at the Kerr-Cregger Field House on Saturday. Washington and Lee University collected its third straight men's team title, while the University of Lynchburg returned to the women's winners' circle for the first time since 2011 with an ODAC record 10th league crown.

Generals' athletes won three individual events and both relays to power W&L's 146.5-point haul to out-pace Bridgewater's 139.0 tallies in the men's team standings. Lynchburg finished third with 117.0 points. The Hornets left no doubt about their victory in the women's table as five individual event gold medals and one relay victory led Lynchburg to 176.0 points. Bridgewater finished second at 132.0 markers, while Roanoke and Washington and Lee were separated by just eight points and 119.0 and 111.0 tallies, respectively.

Bridgewater swept both ODAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Meet honors with Emily Valle securing the women's award and Davonta Womack repeating as the men's honoree. Lynchburg's Maddie Van Aken and Virginia Wesleyan's Coby Cockrell earned ODAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet laurels with Cockrell adding ODAC Rookie of the Meet accolades. Lynchburg's Jessica Cammarata earned the women's top rookie award. Washington and Lee mentor Brandon Uhl earned his third straight ODAC Men's Coach of the Year honor, while Lynchburg's Jim Sprecher received his first women's indoor top coaching nod.

The final two individual honors were selected by the conference's sports information directors. Bridgewater and Washington and Lee distance runners Calista Ariel and Hank Patrick were tabbed the ODAC/Virignia Farm Bureau Insurance Women's and Men's Indoor Track Scholar-Athletes of the Year, respectively.

Four of the six new records were set on the men's side of the ledger. Womack, who repeated as champion in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes as well as the long jump, set a new championship mark in the 60-dash at 0:06.83. Teammate Jamie Hiegel won both the 3000-meter and 5000-meter runs for the second straight season and set a new championship record in the latter race with a time of 14:54.53.

Randolph College's Darren Petty was a repeat champion in the 60-meter hurdles. Not only did his time of 0:08.23 set a new championship mark, but it also established a new ODAC overall standard. Bridgewater's Valle did exactly the same thing to account for the two records set in the women's competition. Her time of 0:08.89 puts her name next to ODAC overall and championship records in the women's 60-meter hurdles.

In addition to Womack, Hiegel, and Petty as repeat event winners, Eastern Mennonite standout Grant Amoateng topped the field in the triple jump for the second time in as many seasons. He won the event by nearly a half-meter at 14.30 meters (46-11.00).

Four women's competitors were also repeat event champions in 2019. Roanoke's Quinn Harlan, the national runner-up in the 60-meter dash last year, won the event with a time of 0:07.71. Fellow Maroon Jayna Jean-Jules won the weight throw at 15.08 meters (49-5.75). Lynchburg's Endasia Mitchell captured her second straight 400-meter dash title at 0:59.62, and Bridgewater's Tye Meador out-distanced the long jump field at 5.47 meters (17-11.50).
