Defending Champs Lynchburg Top ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament Field

FOREST, Va. --- Defending champion University of Lynchburg enters the 2022 ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament as the top seed following a wild evening of results on Wednesday night to close the regular season.

No fewer than four positions changed by the end of the evening when looking at the league table prior to tonight's fixtures. Lynchburg entered the evening second in the standings, but the Hornets 1-0 triumph over Hampden-Sydney College combined with Guilford College's second win over a nationally ranked team in three games via a 3-0 result over #7 Washington and Lee University moved Lynchburg over the Generals for the top seed. Washington and Lee will be the second seed.

Virginia Wesleyan University is one of the few not to move spots despite a 2-1 victory over Bridgewater College, leaving the Marlins in third position. That result, however, allowed Roanoke College to slot fourth in the field following the Maroons 3-0 win at Eastern Mennonite University. The Eagles occupy the fifth seed.

Randolph-Macon College scored a 2-0 road win at Shenandoah University, helping the Yellow Jackets jump one spot to #6 in the tournament bracket. They are followed up by Guilford as the seventh seed. The Quakers picked up six points in their upsets of Lynchburg and W&L on the past two midweeks to move them into tournament position.

In a rare occurrence, there was just one tie in the ODAC standings between Hampden-Sydney and Randolph College. The Tigers, who entered the night tied with R-MC on 11 points, fell to Lynchburg, 1-0, on Wednesday. The WildCats picked up one point via a 0-0 draw at home against Averett University. That left H-SC and Randolph tied at 11 points for the final seed in the eight-team tournament field. The Tigers 3-2 victory at Randolph on October 8 broke the stalemate, awarding H-SC eighth position.
