Yellow Jackets Top Roanoke for First ODAC Crown
ROANOKE, Va. --- Randolph-Macon College won its
first ODAC volleyball title on Saturday afternoon, upholding its
billing as the No. 1 seed with a 3-1 victory over seventh seeded
Roanoke College. The Yellow Jackets earn the ODAC's automatic
qualifier into the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament.
The Yellow Jackets won game one by the score of 25-23, took game
two 25-16, had championship point in game three, but the Maroons
rallied to win 26-24. Down early in the fourth game,
Randolph-Macon clawed back into the set and won, 25-18.
Raena Winton, the tournament's Most
Outstanding Player, paced R-MC with 15
kills. Mallory Carter had 10 kills, while
Jessica Sears added eight in the victory. Courtney
Anderson dished out 26 assists and Sam Block had 14
helpers as well. Defensively, Carter and Sears each had
22 digs, while choice Jill Kubichan had 21 stops. April
Hines had four serving aces and the Jackets won 25 points on
her serves during the match. Carter also had three aces.
For Roanoke, Maggie Wagner and Kelsey Largen each collected 19
kills. Caitlyn Long handed out 45 assists towards the
Maroons' 51 winners. Defensively, Lindsay Wright had 29 digs
while Long and Wagner each had 25. Emily Martin came up with
24 digs to go along with a pair of aces. Lynsey Ferris and
Kylie Lucas had four total blocks each.
Randolph-Macon begins play in the NCAA Division III Volleyball
Tournament on Thursday, November 12, in one of eight regional
tournaments. The selection show that announces the at-large
selections and team allocation to the regionals is set for Monday,
