LEXINGTON, Va. --- The #3-seeded Lynchburg
College volleyball team defeated the #7 seed, Bridgewater College
in five sets 25-18, 25-22, 10-25, 19-25, 15-8 Saturday afternoon to
advance to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship
match.
The Hornets, winners of seven of their last eight matches,
continued their hot play in the first two games against
Bridgewater.
Amanda Perry led the way for the Hornets in the first game
with seven of her team-high 16 kills in the match while hitting
.500 on her attempts.
The Eagles challenged in game two, leading 14-10 early before LC
went on a five-point run to take advantage. The Hornets got a kill
each from Sierra
Strathy and Jennifer
Garrett while also using three Eagle errors to pull ahead
15-14. Another five-point comeback finished off the second set for
LC.
Bridgewater, after upsetting #2 Randolph-Macon College, was not
going down easily, picking up games three and four in easy
fashion.
Lynchburg jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the fifth game thanks
to a kill each from Strathy, Perry, and Gabby
Myers. Two attack errors and a Strathy block put the Hornets
ahead for good.
Garrett and Strathy joined Perry in double-figure kills with 13 and
11 respectively. Myers had 46 assists while Sam
Page and Perry each had 13 digs.
Katie Long led the Eagles (20-16) with 13 kills while Lindsay
Kallam had 42 assists and Mara Hogan contributed 18 digs.
Lynchburg (14-12) with face off against Washington and Lee
University, the #1 seed, this afternoon at 5 p.m. The Hornets lost
to the Generals in last year's championship in four games.
