ODAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

BASEBALL
Dan Nicoll, Hampden-Sydney, Junior
Pitcher
Nicoll, a junior from Centreville,
Va., opened the 2012 campaign 2-0 with a 5-3 opening day win over
Ferrum and a 5-1 victory over Stevenson this past Saturday. Against
Ferrum, Nicoll pitched six shutout innings while allowing just
three hits. He also struck out five batters while walking just one.
In his match up against Stevenson, he allowed one run on four hits
in five innings. In his 11 total innings pitched, Nicoll has
allowed seven hits, one run and boasts a 0.82 earned run average
with eight strikeouts against just two walks.

BASEBALL
Bryan Melendez, Eastern Mennonite,
Freshman, Outfielder
Melendez, a freshman from Lansdale,
Pa., had a strong debut for the Royals, batting .571 in his first
doubleheader, including a 1.429 slugging percentage. The Royals'
lead-off hitter reached base in seven of his first 10 plate
appearances, posting a .700 on-base percentage. For the week,
Melendez hit 4-for-7 with three walks, three doubles and a homerun.
He scored four runs and knocked in three while stealing one base.
In his first game, he accounted for both of the Royals’ runs,
scoring one and knocking in the other. He added the homer,
EMU’s first of the season, in his second game, a 9-1 victory
over NC Wesleyan.

INDOOR TRACK
Zander Tallman, Washington and Lee,
Sophomore, Sprints
Tallman, a sophomore from Grand Blanc,
Mich., broke two school records at the Bucknell Winter Classic on
Saturday. He finished first overall in the 400-meter dash with a
new school standard of 49.06, crushing his own record of 49.96 that
he set last year. His 49.06 is also currently the third fastest
time in NCAA Division III and the fastest mark in the ODAC this
season. Tallman also finished third overall and first among
Division III competitors in the 200-meter dash with a school-record
time of 22.31, eclipsing the old mark of 22.78. That time is also a
new season-best standard for the conference.

INDOOR TRACK
Kori Penick, Lynchburg, Junior,
Throws
Penick, a junior from Amherst, Va.,
moved into second place all-time at Lynchburg in the shot put as
she heaved the apparatus 12.56 meters (41' 2.5") on Friday night at
Liberty in the LU Quad Meet. She mark is #1 in the ODAC this
season. She currently ranks 30th in NCAA Division III.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Malcolm Green, Emory & Henry, Junior,
Guard
Green, a junior from Marshville, N.C.,
led the Wasps to their first two-win week since Dec. 30/31 and
their first back-to-back victories over ODAC teams this season. His
31 points against Roanoke on Wednesday marked a career high. He did
it on 10-of-12 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 from
beyond the arc, and converting 9-of-11 foul shots. He added four
rebounds and two assists to his stat line. Green added 17 points
and seven boards, as well as the game-winning layup with 10-seconds
to play, in an 81-80 win over Eastern Mennonite. Green, who has
reached double figures in 18-of-23 contests, leads the team in
scoring (14.5 ppg) and is tied for third in rebounding (4.6
rpg).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Sarah Seipp, Virginia Wesleyan, Freshman,
Guard
Seipp, a freshman from Gaithersburg,
Md., helped Virginia Wesleyan to a pair of ODAC victories last
week, including an overtime victory over Eastern Mennonite to take
over the top spot in the ODAC standings. Seipp, who has scored in
double figures in 15 straight games, notched 19 points to go with
seven rebounds and four steals in a 67-56 win over Lynchburg. She
was 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. In the Marlins' 82-76 extra time
win over EMU, Seipp scored the final six points of the game as she
nailed a three-pointer and connected on 3-of-4 free throws down the
stretch. She finished with 27 points, matching her career-high. She
added six rebounds, three assists and two steals as VWC moved to
15-2 in ODAC play (18-4 overall).
