ODAC Athletes of the Week | Basketball, Indoor Track & Field, Swimming

FOREST, Va. --- The winter season is in full swing for a week between the holiday seasons with indoor track & field opening its season and joining basketball and swimming for this weekly report. Those earning weekly honors in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor field, men's and women's indoor track, and men's and women's swimming are Miles Mallory from Randolph-Macon men's basketball, Peyton Murphy from Sweet Briar swimming, Zach Stephan from Hampden-Sydney swimming, Kayla Surles from Hollins basketball, Julian Douglas and Sammi Woods from Lynchburg track & field (field athletes), Jaylyn lane from Virginia Wesleyan track & field (track athlete), and Alex Shadkhoo from Lynchburg track & field (track athlete).

MEN'S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Julian Douglas | Lynchburg | Jr.
Douglas, a junior from Lynchburg, Va., put together a strong start to the indoor season with a trio of top-three finishes at the Bast-Cregger Invitational hosted by Roanoke College. Douglas won the long jump with a leap of 7.00 meters (22-11.75), which tops the ODAC early season chart and ranks third in NCAA Division III. It would have been the second-best mark in the conference last season when compared with the final 2018-19 performance chart. Douglas also competed on the track, placing third in the 60-meter dash in 0:07.089 and seventh in the 200-meter dash in 0:23.32.

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Alex Shadkhoo | Lynchburg | So.
Shadkhoo, a sophomore from Herndon, Va., put together a strong start to the indoor season with a pair of event victories at the Bast-Cregger Invitational hosted by Roanoke College. Shadkhoo won both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, posting times of 0:07.06 and 0:22.47, respectively. His 200-meter dash time is currently #1 in NCAA Division III and a new personal-best. In the preliminary stages of the 60-dash, he posted a time of 0:07.00, which sits 13th in the country.

WOMEN'S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Sammi Woods | Lynchburg | Sr.
Woods, a senior from Fredericksbug, Va., started off the indoor campaign with a strong showing in the throws at the Bast-Cregger Invitational hosted by Roanoke College. Woods won the shot put with a new personal-best throw of 12.46 meters. That is #1 in the ODAC by nearly 1.5 meters and ranks 21st in NCAA Division III. It also surpasses the best throw by any ODAC athlete last season. Woods also placed sixth in the weight throw at 12.50 meters, which ranks fifth in the ODAC.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jaylyn Lane | Virginia Wesleyan | So.
Lane, a sophomore from Portsmouth, Va., put together an all-around stellar performance at the Holiday Open hosted by Christopher Newport University. She was the top Division III competitor in each of three events in which she competed. Lane placed ninth overall in the 60-meter dash at 0:08.02. That time is second-fastest in the ODAC and ranks 37th in the country. She was even more impressive in the 200-meter dash, posting a 10th-place time of 0:26.30. That is #1 in the ODAC and ninth in Division III. Lane also shined in the field as she finished sixth in the long jump at 5.19 meters (17-0.50). That also tops the conference chart and is 22nd in the nation.

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Miles Mallory | Randolph-Macon | Fr. | Forward
Mallory, a freshman from Beltsville, Md., helped nationally ninth-ranked to a pair of victories last week to improve to 9-0 on the season. Mallory averaged 17.5 points and 9.0 rebounds with 6 blocked shots and a 69.6 (16-of-23) field goal percentage. He opened with 14 points and eight rebounds with a pair of blocked shots in a 97-55 triumph over Bridgewater. He was 7-of-10 from the floor in 26 minutes of action. Mallory turned up his production against nationally 18th-ranked Christopher Newport as he notched his second double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 79-62 win over the Captains. He added four blocked shots and chipped in a pair of steals. For the season, Mallory is averaging 12.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. He leads the ODAC in field goal shooting (.612) and blocked shots (29) and ranks fourth in field goals made (52-of-85) and total rebounds (74).

MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Zach Stephan | Hampden-Sydney | Jr.
Stephan, a junior from Hampton, Va., put together a strong showing as he helped Hampden-Sydney defeat Gallaudet, 178-73, in a dual meet last week. He is the first Tiger to earn an ODAC men's swimmer of the week award. Stephan won two individual events and finished second in a third. He also helped the Tigers win a relay. Stephan placed first in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:06.05 in addition to winning the 100-meter freestyle in 0:56.11. He added a second place showing in the 200-meter backstroke in 2:35.22. Stephan swam a leg of the winning 200-meter medley relay, which stopped the watches at 2:02.31.

WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Peyton Murphy | Sweet Briar | Fy.
Murphy, a first-year from Norfolk, Va., posted a trio of individual event victories and aided the Vixens in one relay win as Sweet Briar topped both Gallaudet (166-80) and Guilford (130-125) in a double-dual meet. Murphy won the 200-meter freestyle in 2:33.52. She again stopped the timers first in the 200-meter butterfly in 2:57.42 and the 200-meter individual medley in 2:49.11. Her converted 200-fly time ranks 22nd in the ODAC. Murphy swam the anchor leg of the winning 200-meter freestyle relay team, which posted a time of 2:11.18.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kayla Surles | Hollins | So. | Guard
Surles, a sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., led Hollins University to pair of ODAC wins last week. It is the first time Hollins has posted back-to-back ODAC wins in December in over a decade. Surles was a strong scorer and playmaker as she averaged 18.0 points per game and 8.5 assists per game while shooting .458 from the field. She had a 5.6 assist-to-turnover ratio at 17-3. Surles opened with 17 points, two rebounds, and nine assists with just one turnover in an 82-68 victory over Washington and Lee. She was 5-of-11 from the field and 6-of-8 from the line. Surles went for 19 points with a trio of made three-pointers and 4-of-4 from the stripe in a 71-63 win at Virginia Wesleyan. She added two rebounds, eight assists, and a pair of steals. For the season, Surles is third in the ODAC in scoring (15.9) and first in assists (45). Her 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio is second in the league. She is fourth in three-point shooting (.405) and fifth in total points (111) and three-pointers made (15-of-37).
