ODAC Athletes of the Week | Basketball

FOREST, Va. --- Week 18 kicks off the new calendar year with two weeks worth of basketball action under its umbrella We saw some strong performances over the holiday season with a pair of familiar faces earning the first weekly awards of 2022. Those earning ODAC Athlete of the Week awards for Monday, January 3, include (pictured from left): Megan Horn from Washington and Lee women's basketball and Kasey Draper from Roanoke men's basketball.

Below are entries for each of the winners from today's release. Most weeks this winter, the following schedule will be used for awards reporting:

  • Mondays: basketball, swimming
  • Tuesdays: indoor track & field (once the season resumes)

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kasey Draper | Roanoke | Jr. | Guard/Forward
Draper, a junior from Roanoke, Va., kicks off the 2022 calendar year with his second ODAC weekly award of the year after leading nationally 10th-ranked Roanoke to a 2-1 record with a trio of double-doubles during the holiday portion of the schedule. On December 20, Draper opened with 22 points and 11 rebounds in a 75-67 setback to Dubuque University. He also dished out four assists. Draper then earned MVP honors at the Cregger Classic hosted by Roanoke just before the calendar flipped to the new year. He came up just one point shy of a new career-best with 30 points in a 59-51 victory over Covenant. He was 11-of-19 from the field and pulled down 10 rebounds including six via the offensive glass. Draper capped his week with 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting in an 87-66 triumph over Buena Vista. He buried four three-pointers and collected 11 boards with four assists and a steal. For the season, Draper now has four double-doubles. He is second in the ODAC in points scored (234), field goals made (88-of-165), and free throws made (49-of-68). He is third in scoring (21.3 ppg), fifth in defensive rebounds (65) and total boards (82), and seventh in rebounding (7.5 rpg).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Megan Horn | Washington and Lee | Sr. | Guard
Horn, a senior from Basking Ridge, N.J., opens the 2022 calendar year with her second ODAC weekly award of the season after leading Washington and Lee to an 86-45 win over Lake Forest College in the Generals second game of the St. Pete Classic at Eckerd College just before the holiday break. The victory marked W&L's fifth win in six outings. Horn came up just two assists shy of a triple double in defeating the Foresters. She was 5-of-10 from the field with a pair of made three-pointers to go with 4-of-5 from the foul line for a game-high 16 points. She also led all players with 10 rebounds, eight assists, and four steals. She tied season-highs with the first two totals and marked a schedule-best in steals. The eight assists moved her into fourth position on the W&L career charts (283). For the season, Horn is averaging 14.4 points and 7.2 rebounds, which rank fifth and seventh in the ODAC, respectively. She is sixth in defensive boards (54), eighth in total points scored (130), and ninth in assists (30) and total rebounds (65).
