ODAC Athletes of the Week | Basketball, Wrestling

FOREST, Va. --- With the approach of the longer holiday season, swimming began its extended break following last week's events, leaving basketball and wrestling as featured sports in week 15. They did not disappoint ODAC fans with several strong outings. Those earning ODAC Athlete of the Week awards for Monday, December 12, include (pictured left-right): Terese Greene from Shenandoah women's basketball, Billy Baldwin and Cole McCormick from Averett wrestling, and Amarion Wilson from Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball.

Below are entries for all four winners from today's release. The schedule below will be used for reporting ODAC Athletes of the Week:

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Amarion Wilson | Virginia Wesleyan | So. | Forward
Wilson, a sophomore from Hampton, Va., helped Virginia Wesleyan to a trio of victories over the past week including a pair of one-point triumphs. Wilson averaged 13 points and seven boards with six assists, three steals, and three blocked shots over the three outings. He opened with 10 points and seven rebounds in a 55-54 home win over Apprentice School. He was 5-of-10 from the field and added two assists, two blocked shots, and a steal. Wilson again helped the Marlins to a second one-point win two days later, this time via a 59-58 ODAC result over Averett. He posted 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting with eight rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. Wilson missed just one shot on the way to 15 points in a 63-50 road victory at Methodist to cap the week. He was 7-of-8 shooting and collected six more boards and two assists. Nine of his 21 total rebounds on the week came via the offensive glass. For the season, Wilson is averaging 10.8 points and 6.0 rebounds through 11 games played. He is second in the ODAC in offensive rebounds (32), third in blocked shots (11), fourth in field goal shooting (61.3%), and fifth in field goals made (57-of-93).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Terese Greene | Shenandoah | So. | Guard
Greene, a sophomore from Culpeper, Va., helped Shenandoah rattle off two more wins over the past week to extended the Hornets winning streak to four straight games. Greene averaged 15.5 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 60.9-percent from the field over the two victories. She opened with 14 points on 6-of-10 from the field in a 78-53 non-conference win at Mt. Aloysius. She added six rebounds, two assists, and three steals in her 24-minute shift. Greene played four fewer minutes but turned up the production in SU's 89-41 triumph over Averett. She registered 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting. She added eight rebounds, three assists, and a steal. For the season, Greene leads the ODAC in scoring (14.1) and field goals made (50-of-117). She is third with 127 total points and seventh with 21 steals.

WRESTLER OF THE WEEK - 165 LBS. AND HEAVIER
Billy Baldwin | Averett | Sr. | 197 lbs.
Baldwin, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., went 5-0 at 197-pounds in five dual matches for Averett at the Cougar Duals hosted by AU on Sunday. Baldwin won by fall twice and scored one victory each by major decision, decision, and technical fall. In the Cougars 60-(-1) win over Emory & Henry to open the event, Baldwin pinned Hunter Brown early at the 1:30 mark. He then ground out a 5-4 decision over Aydan Edwards to help AU top Fairmont State University, 37-9. Baldwin registered his second pin at 3:33 over Tony Ray, helping the Cougars down Patrick Henry CC, 52-0. He then dominated Omori Lee from St. Andrews University, winning by 19-4 technical fall at 4:39 in a 42-21 team triumph. In the first place match, Baldwin contributed a 12-1 major decision win over Matthew Henson in the Cougars 32-9 team win over Apprentice School.

WRESTLER OF THE WEEK - 157 LBS. AND LIGHTER
Cole McCormick | Averett | So. | 125/133 lbs.
McCormick, a sophomore from Poquoson, Va., wrestled at two different weight classes in helping Averett to four of their five team wins to claim the title at the Cougar Duals hosted by AU on Sunday. McCormick wrestled at 125-pounds in the Cougars 60-(-1) team win over Emory & Henry. He won by fall at 2:46 over Orlando Hernandez. McCormick again pinned his opponent at 125-pounds in a 52-0 victory over Patrick Henry CC. He decked Hunter Fulp just 1:14 into the match. McCormick's third bout turned into a forfeit win at 125-pounds, helping AU to a 42-21 win over St. Andrews University. In the title match against Apprentice School, McCormick completed his undefeated day by wrestling up a weight class at 133-pounds. He scored a 10-4 decision over Dillon Messick, helping the Cougars to a 32-9 team triumph.
