The Lead: Four Maroons scored in double-figures as Roanoke upended rival Lynchburg 75-65 Wednesday evening in ODAC Men's Basketball play.
How it Happened:
- RC led 11-8 seven minutes into the contest before using a 11-2 run that was capped by a Tripp Greene three-pointer that made the score 22-10 with 10:30 left on the clock.
- Lynchburg responded with a 12-2 run, cutting the Maroons advantage to 24-22 following a Reggie Davis trifecta with just over seven minutes to go in the half.
- The score was tied 30-30 with 4:38 to play. RC scored 13 of the final 19 points of the half, the final three of which coming courtesy of a Dillon Thomas buzzer-beating three-pointer as time expired to send the Maroons to the locker room up 43-36.
- With RC leading 50-44, Roanoke went on a 13-2 run, pushing its lead to 63-46 on a Thomas three-pointer with 11:22 to go in the game.
- The Hornets rallied, using a 15-6 spurt to cut the Maroons lead to 69-61 with 3:43 to go.
- That would be as close as Lynchburg would get as the Maroon defense held the Hornets to just two made field goals down the stretch.
- Greene led RC with 19 points. Kasey Draper had 13 points, Thomas finished with 13 points and Caleb Jordan added 10.
- Tharon Suggs finished with a team-high 17 points, while Cody Lang had 15 and T.C. Thacker had 12.
- RC shot 24-of-51 (47.1%) from the field, including a 12-of-24 showing from beyond the three-point line. Lynchburg, which entered the game averaging 80 points per game, was held to its second lowest scoring output of the year. The Hornets made 26-of-59 (44.1%) shots from the floor.
Up Next: Roanoke is off until Feb. 5 when it travels to Emory & Henry for a 7:00 p.m. game.
